Wouldn't have went out looking for a sporterized K98, but picked one up in an estate lot - think I might have to keep it. Receiver is an Erfurt dated 1915 - barrel is original - supposidly the steps were filed out and then it was reblued. Whoever did it did an amazing job. Stock is designed to fit a taller person (might have to take the spacer out, and I'm 6'2". Bore is bright and shiny.
Don't know if I'll keep the peep or have it drilled and tapped for a base and get an old Weaver.
Any restrictions when handloading for a Mauser of this age (other than the published data)?
Even came with 4 or 5 full boxes of milsurp ammo, and the remnants of the paper case (and carrying strap) they came packed in.
