Wasn't in the best of shape and it was a BRNO that was changed to 7.62 but it's a great addition to have on the wall along with my reproduction German helmet.

You might be surprised how nice the bluing is under that rust if you boil the parts in plain old water rather than scrubbing the rust and remaining finish off.

I agree. Soap and hot water with a nylon scrub brush are miracle cures for a lot of rust. The guy who invented the wire wheel should have insisted on a triple-latched case that keeps asking the worker to use it only as a tool of last resort, and is he sure.

OP, don't let the guys burst your bubble.

That's an excellent price for that particular k98 variant. Even if the bore is pooched, a take off barrel can be attached.

That rifle is swathed in history, look it up.

Yes, it definitely needs some TLC, I wouldn't do anything, other than to strip it down, clean every component and put it back together again.

WIPE OUT bore cleaner will eat up the active rust, right down to the shiney metal. It will also dissolve old inactive rust in the same manner, just needs a day or two to work. WIPE OUT on 6-0 steel wool will clean up the heavier surface rust with an hour or two of elbow grease.

Nice rifle, they usually shoot very well.

I most certainly wouldn't have sold it for $100.

You can get NOS Isreali K98 762 Barrels from the states for 99 USD.

You can only get them delivered to Canada through a broker, unless you go through all of the documentation yourself.

Still a good price, but by the time it gets here, well over $250C

Yes I know, I had to go thru Az tech Armory to import mine. I think it was like 270$ ish landed at the time. Then ship to get installed and sights installed. Just went thru having one refinished to be a shooter. New barrel, all new finish. Mine was drilled and tapped, so was just a shooter.

I don't even want one but I certainly would have bought it for $100.
