Was at my favourite local gun store and was talking about mosin nagants with the owner. He said he didn't have any in, but he did have some carbine versions. I ended up walking out of there with my wallet a little lighter, but with a great looking rifle, in excellent condition. It's a 1953 M44, and is it ever heavy.

You got a polish M44, they are the nicest mosin carbine you will find. congrat:)

Nice, congrats! I have a couple myself. Note: slip-on recoil pad is wise. These guys are fire breathing, shoulder rocking monsters.

Ever compare the kick to an Enfield Jungle Carbine? Nagant carbines are almost gentle by comparison.

E&I sports? I looked at them, quite nice shape. I looked once then came home to look up the average price online, then just forgot as it wasnt a must have on my list. Whats he asking for them now?

Thats a nice little score. Great for hunting, and yes, they breath fire. Honestly, I don't think they kick that hard. No big deal to shoot a hundred rounds wearing a t-shirt, and I'm not a big guy nor do i use a recoil pad. The 205 gr bullets boot a bit harder, but hey, if you don't like recoil, then you have the wrong hobby.

Hey I just bought one of those too. I'm really liking it. I bought the ati monte Carlo stock to put on it mainly to preserve the original wood. However swapping the stock and removing the bayonet has considerably lightened the rifle. I plan on using it to do a little deer hunting with it in the back yard. Great little compact rifle that does pack a punch. Where I live it's heavily wooded and a long shot would be a hundred yards unless its a farmers field. So short it should be easy to carry in the woods around here. Was thinking might get scout scope mount and add a scope. sorry don't have a pic with new stock but will take one later and post. Great quality for the price. Good luck! You'll like it!

I have two of those too, and I find them about the same, minus the "pain amplifier" rubber recoil intensifier on the No5mk1.

lol I find they both kick about the same.

But yeah what is up with that little rubber bump on the butt of the Jungle Carbine?!
It's like they were designing it and asked themselves "alright chaps, how can we make this thing far more painful and unpleasant to shoot for the average soldier?!" lol

Nice rifle by the way, I debated a Pole but I just always wanted a Russian M44 so that is what I got ;)

One thin you need to know is that the Russians zeroed Mosins with bayonet fixed; removing the bayonet altogether will have affected your point of impact and you are going to need to drift the front sight to compensate.

I had a look at mine, and apparently it's Hungarian according to the symbols on it. I think it is at least, it's got the 02 stamped on it and I can't really make out the mark too well on it. Definitely not the polish symbol though.

It's the butt. That silly rubber stock protector on the no5mk1 is murder. If it had a no4 stock, it would feel about the same as a m44. I love them both, but slip on a recoil pad, typically. Google detached retina. Hard kickers can cost you where you least expect it, play safe, shoot for a lifetime.
