So I just got my first Uberti El Patrone, Uberti's relatively new "hand-tuned for competition" Single-Action Army 1873 clone. I have to say I am so far VERY impressed with it. Out of the box, it is already as smooth as my Pietta 73 became after hundreds of rounds.

The only thing I don't like about it is the laser-checkered grips. I HATE checkered grips on a 73. Alas, it's only available in checkered. I see a set of aftermarket grips in my future... ;)

Congrats I have a few Ubert's. My favorite is the 45 colt 3/4 barrel with a birds head grip. The vids on Uberti's site are great http://www.uberti.com/video/ I fell like a kid when i watch them. and add to my want List. :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: sometimes I get a dirty old glass with a shot of whiskey and a beer and put on an old Clint Eastwood movie. My wife thinks I'm nuts. But when the whiskey hits. I feel good. LOL Nice gun you got. They work great
 
Absolutely beatiful. How much did that model cost and where can I get one. I assume it won't be the $3500+ price of a Colt. Does Uberti do that same model with a 7.5" bbl?
 
Now I know I'm not supposed to "judge", but that's nice!

I love the 45 Colt chambering - never heard of any cowboys in the late 19th century shooting 357 Mag......
 
They are around $100 more than a regular cattleman, something like $650 plus tax or so.

I order all my uberti stuff from gunco in Ottawa. They are the Canadian authorized warranty depot and generally have the best prices around.
 
Nice Hog Leg Claven, hopefully you'll get years of trouble free shooting from that one.

I agree with the checkered grips, get `em off. Of course, I'm not a gamer, they probably take a few seconds off your time.
 
It's not so much that they are checkered (original commercial Colts came standard with checkered hard rubber grips), but the laser checkering creates a thousand little breakable nibs, not as durable as real pointed checkering. They will look like crap after no time when these start to break off from use.

I'm considering a set of the Cimarron hard rubber grips, which are vaguely similar to Colt grips and should be a drop-in replacement for my Uberti.

The gunbelt is actually a double-holster rig. I wear this Uberti on the left, the right is reserved for a Cimarron Model P, also a 4,3/4 gun in 45 Colt.

I'm a lefty though and I also have a single-holster Buscalero rig for general range fun. I keep wishing someone in Canada did fastdraw conversions similar to Bob Munden's work so I could practise high-speed thumbing draws without destroying the pistol internals. Alas, to date, I have found no such gunsmith in Canada and sending a pistol to the sates is too difficult. Also, Bob will only work on brand-name Colts and Rugers. I'm not a Ruger fan.

He will only slick up Italians, won't build fast-draw race guns on them. Not sure why, since last I checked, Colts are assembled using Uberti parts. I rather suspect it's a snobbery thing common to many American gunsmiths.

Ah Colt... why pay $650 for a nice SAA, when you can pay $1800+ for the same gun with a pony stamped on it?
 
Interesting. Most modern cowboys start with 45 Colt or 44-40 and then migrate to 357 when they get the itch to start gaming. Pretty soon they are sporting an Evil Roy holster rig from Mernickle, running three Winchester 97's to ensure reliability and have filed their rifle buckhorns flat - lol. Me, I prefer to shoot a calibre that actually existed pre-1897 since I don't shoot to win, just to have fun and not embarrass myself ;)

What are you getting in 45's? A LOT of guys who start with SAA clones go to the Rugers for reliability reasons. I still like the Colt design for authenticity though.
 
I really like the El Patron and had one set aside at a local dealer,then An antiqued Cattleman came up for sale on the EE so I bought it instead. I shot a couple hundred rounds of factory ammo then started re-loading.
It is black powder Sunday at the range tomorrow and I have some .45 Colt black powder cartridges made up...24 grains Goex FFFG a wad and a 230 round nose bullet. Most of the time I shoot smokeless loads but this is a special event and I want to keep it real.
