Picked up this little gem, looks to have been fired little, if ever. EAW mounts, Leupold VXIII 6.5-20 with parallax adjustment and a vertical precision turret. I have 6 mags too ;)

Very happy to have found this nice old Colt.

Those are fantastic rifles - I think you will be very pleased with that rifle. A Remington 700 will never feel the same again. :)

No, I got it through a local sale. I think I did pretty well - $1500 for the rig as pictured (plus tax). Definitely I did better than nay I found for sale online and the .22-250 variant is purportedly rare as hen's teeth.

Your Deal was a Steal

I recall seeing a Colt Sauer for sale at Tradeex. The listed price was thousands more than what you paid, if my memory is correct. You did very well with your purchase.

I have never seen a Colt Sauer 'in the flesh.' But my friend who is a big gun nut told me years ago that he saw one at a gun show. He says, to this day, that it was the smoothest action he ever worked, and as a fine a rifle as he has ever seen.

Congrats on the purchase. I have a Sauer 90, it's the smoothest factory action I ever tried. You did real good on the price, the EAW pivot mounts alone are priced at +$400 brand new. She's a keeper and would make a unique coyote rifle.

Yes, well, I have to agree - these rifles have the most glass-smooth action I have ever worked. I did know what it was and what it was worth before I bought it - it came from a local shop liquidating an estate and I was gobsmacked when I got the chance to own this one at this price.

For those who might be interested, there is a second one that is virtually identical (except in .300 Win Mag) at the same shop. I think it had some extra mags as well, definitely had EAW mounts identical to mine. I don't remember what it had on it for glass - might have been a Vari-X III 3.5-10 with parallax adjustment.

If interested, it's Gunco in Ottawa - no online presence, but you can call them at 613-224-6266.

My treasure trove of (rare and expensive) mags:

oh, and as an aside, i nthe pic of the barrel roll stamp - that's not finish damage, it's reflection of the carpet. These are finished throughout like an early Colt Python. Simply beautiful.

I picked up a Sauer 80 in a 9.3x64 a few years back. Has the same EAW mounts and a Zeiss diatal. I need to spend more time with it but so far I've been happy with it. Nice find and I'm sure you'll enjoy and have fun with yours. Looks good.

Well I had it out today and it was holding MOA all day long with regular Winchester 55gr silver box soft points from Canadian Tire.

Handloads (when I get dies) are going to be DEADLY in this rifle. I'll post a pic or two of groups later, but once dialled in, it had no trouble at all holding MOA.

Well darn, I just looked through my targets and this ois the only group I didn;t patch over and re-shoot later with my AR :(

Still though, it's representative, though many groups were a hair smaller. Not bad for crappy Winchester Super-X and my first outing with this rifle.

On the Bandwagon

I bought the 300 Mag, sight unseen, over the phone last week. Hopefully, it will be just as nice as yours. Mine did not come with a scope, and you got a far better price than me.

But I always wanted a Colt Sauer and it is in the mail! I will post when I get it.

I know the previous owner a good friend and past hunting buddy, lost him about 2 months ago. If you ever shot at Stittsville he was always there, usually just hanging out with his wife having coffee.
He had a hell of a collection of the finest German made rifles, H&K, Sauer Weatherby's, Colts and Mausers and made sure they were well taken care of.

The best part about this guy is his life story, he was born in Canada but at a young age, basically still a child that barely spoke any German was shipped to Germany to fight for the Third Reiach as a youth. Served WWII in a Panzer, came back to Canada after the war, he has written a book "Panzer Gunner" and proceeds go to the Canadian War Museum.
Great man with a great story.... miss him.

That's great info. I did shoot at Stittsville years ago and probably met him. I saw the stuff that came out of the estate, and most of it was top shelf. I'd have bought more, funds permitting.

I bought a couple of old Mauser Sporters that I remeber Bruno hunting with years ago and will keep as a momento of him.

Enjoy the rifle its a beauty.
