Went up by myself today to check out the show, lots of over priced guns as usual.I picked up a set of gong brackets from Drummond for $40.While continuing my search for a decent old bolt 22 with peeps.I came across this old 69a which seemed all there and in decent shape. The chap was asking $400 and I bought it for $300,probably over paid but at $200 you mostly get junk.Gave the bore a good scrubbing and checked everything over seems to cycle great and no extraction issues.Peeps adjust nice with a faint audable click.I hope to get it out tomorrow for a try.Trigger is nasty at 5lbs but i'll fix that later.Don't tell the Wife!!

The rear sight is a Redfield micrometer sight. Front is a Redfield or lymen.
Anyone now where to purchase different globe inserts?

I've got some off ebay from a Canadian seller that are great. They are clear made from plastic so you only see a fine ring in the middle. Once you get used to them you wont want to go back to the conventional inserts.

Just measure your current insert in mm and google: Lyman XXmm sight inserts

Very nice find and Thanks for sharing the pics with us.
However, if you don't want Dear Wife to find out, the laundry room is the last place to hide it..

Maybe Mr. Savage does the laundry? :d You seem to have a knack for finding deals on these neat old twenny tooos. Think it'll beat the mossberg? Fun to shoot some peep sights for a change, like I did as a junior 20 yard prone.

I kinda got bored with bench shooting and decided to try irons for a while.
I,m up to 3 old girls now. 2 mossbergs a 146ba and a 42b with peeps and now the 69a winchester. These old bolts are a riot too shoot and pretty accurate. I found a marlin 81 for my buddy with peeps for $195 and that rifle is unreal accurate. I shot 8 out 10 into a 1" bull at 47yds with a front rest only with a 5lb trigger, cci sv.
There's deals out there
On a side note my 42b I bought from a dealer on here was junk till I went through it.I've fixed the bolt coming out and I think I have the extraction issues fixed or at least I know what the problem is. Anyway it's fun to tinker with the old bolts.

I had that one in my sights on friday.
Sure didn't think he'd come down that much.
They are a great fun shooting rifle.
Two here now.

Nice score.

Snooze you loose!
Haha. He didn't hesitate and took the offer right away. I had my eye on the husky 22 in the same isle but it had no peeps and the guy paid a lot for it. He was trying to recover his investment. Was in real nice shape and a sweet trigger.

Had the old girl out today with my Mossberg 42b.It was too much fun shooting peep sights today.I got the 69a somewhat sighted in using aguila SV and CCI SV.

I recently picked up an old Savage/Anschutz with Redfield Olympic rear sight and unknown front. After someone suggested Lee Shaver, I went to the website and found they had dimensions listed for different inserts. Found out my front was a small Redfield, so ordered them from the same site. Had them in a week.

Awesome thanks, I used their site to determine mine is a Lyman 17a. I will order from them as you get 10 inserts for $20.

I got a little more practice and fine tuning of the peeps on the 69a.The insert it came with is set up for 50m biathalon. My buddy used to run the kids biathalon program and had the proper targets which is the black one.The old girl functions very well and ran flawlessly.
Shooting with the open sights is a nice change from a high powered scope.
