Hi All. Thought this might be interesting.

I love when people clean out old storage closets ......

I got a shiny deal on three of these old AP-74 .22's, along with a box of spare parts. They hadn't seen the light of day since the early nineties apparently. They were originally bought from a gunstore that went under.

This one is near perfect condition, the second in the pic has a broken flash hider, and needs a bit of extra cleaning.


The third has an issue I hope someone here may be able to help me with ... from what I've read, this happens when the trigger is pulled while the upper is off ... ( it came this way .. I didn't do it ... :D )

Does anyone have an idea how to repair this? The frame is aluminum, so my options are already limited.


The first one is in such nice condition, I plan to run it 'as is' in the old school M-16 look, the second I may see how feasible ( i.e cheap ) it is to dress it up as an "A2" or something along those lines. Since the deal was worked out in trade, I can afford to play around with these quite a bit. The only crap part is that they are restricted, so I can only play at the range. I had to wait extra time to get them transferred because the lady at the CFO's got into some sort of a "descriptive tug of war " with the previous owner over the weapon specs.

I've read plenty of owner accounts on how these operate. Some love 'em, some hate 'em ... anyone here have firsthand info or actually own one? I'd love to hear the feedback. Once I get them out to the Range for a proper workout, I'll do a range report.

^probably the best way.

For starters I would get some jb weld, make sure both surfaces are clean, and glue it back on. See if it holds.
 
Wow! Nice score... I remember (back in the late 80's) walking down Young Street in whenever I was in the city (Toronto) and passing Nick's Gun Shop where I'd ogle the blonde wood stocked one they had displayed in the window... My brother has one of these plastic stocked ones - it shoots great once you identify what ammunition it likes. Too bad spare parts and mags are hard to come by (except for a fellow in your fortunate position)...

Do you recall what ammo it liked? Going to start off with the usual Federal 550 count box, and go from there .. :D Only wound up with one mag apiece, but the gentleman I got these from hasn't finished cleaning out the storage yet .. fingers are crossed .. :D

Sorry Scott, trying to find some myself. Have a bud down south keeping an eye out. Numrich Arms lists all the parts for these, but mags and flash hiders are currently out of stock.

If I find any quantity, I'll get as many as the budget can take.

i had an ap-74 with wood stock/forearm.i also broke the ejector post by letting the hammer fall on it.the store gave me a used lower but it was never the same(jams).the metal is pig/pot metal.i sold it off many moons ago...
it was my first gun...
 
I have one and it is a little picky on what it eats. It likes minimags and velocitors. The hard hitting stuff. Solid point seemed to feed better. I treat the AP74 like an AR and use lots of CLP on the bolt. Mine came without a flash hider and I haven't been able to find one. I see yours is broken. Are the hiders plastic? Cheers... ps I'll take a hider if you end up with extras

I remember the same rifle! These rifles were also made in 32 ACP and Nick had one which I examined and passed on. Pot metal crap has never interested me.

Nick... what a .............character ;)
