Hello, I am just wondering if some of you who know more than I about Lee Enfields could shed some light on a question I was thinking about. I have an bsa 1914 smle 1mkIII not a mkIII* that I unsporterized. Now the barrel, receiver and sight all match, but the bolt has 2 sets of numbers on it. The set on the back of the bolt handle matches but there is another set of numbers under the bolt handle that is different. For some reason I think I remember hearing that the Australians stamped numbers there. It was in Australia as it has D^D stamping which I think is Australian. Sorry I cant add pictures because Im out of town working until May. Thanks for any info.

The Aussie LE's have a second number on the bolt and the reciever at the back near the bolt handle. Pretty much where the grove the bolt slides into. My lithgow does, the bolt number matches the rifle and the second smaller numbers match as well. Iirc it's a letter and two or three numbers.

It could be a renumbered bolt that was previously on another rifle. The second number sounds like a proof assembly number.
