I have a 358 STA that is awesome! But always wanting to improve on things I came up with the idea of necking up the 338 lapua to 35 and improving it, I'm sure I'm not the first person to do this but I've never seen it before. All parts are accounted for including dies and reamer just a matter of putting it together. I dubbed it the 358 Yukon hammer haha

I have 2. 358 NMs. One is a rebored Ruger Number 1 from 338 Win Mag and the other is a Winchester Model 70 rebored from. 338 Win Mag. Both were chambered as "long necks" to allow the use of full length 300 Win Mag cases, and that is all I've ever shot out of them. I love this calibre but have yet to shoot something with either one. Maybe next year.

This year, my model 68DL Schultz & Larsen in 7x61 S&H got the call for Antelope in AB.
Next season, the plan is to get some action for another Schultz, also a 68DL and in 358 NM, on Moose.
The other reason to build a 358 Norma Mag is that not only is it accurate and adequate for any game you will ever hunt in NA, but if you decide to sell it, it will be gone in a flash! Ever notice how many are not advertised for sale? And if you do find one and inquire about it, it is already gone when you call.

I bought a 35 WHELEN this fall in a RUGER M77 and took two deer with it already. They drop like stones when hit with a hornady 200gn sp but the hole on the other side is huge so no more shoulder shots with the 35. I like it way more than any of my 06 rifles with the exception of the mountain rifle 06 I use to own. I use all my left over 06 brass for loading the WHELEN now, cheap and easy to do and the recoil is more than manageable.

When you offered the Husqvarna for me to purchase, I had intended to turn it down, which I did, initially. My objective, a 358 NM in a Schultz & Larsen. I had already turned down a Husqvarna and two CZ's, but after you sent photos of your Husqvarna, my weak willpower took over. My rationale, when I finally get a Schultz, I'll shed the Husqvarna. That hasn't happened yet. As much as I'm a FAN of the Schultz & Larsen as a bolt action, putting them both to shoulder, I have to admit, the Husqvarna 'feels' better. Bottem line, it's not going anytime soon. Besides, it hasn't 'drawn blood' yet. Hopefully next season, on Moose of course.

a controlled feed Model 70 in 35 Whelen should look something like this.....Pre'64 action, 23" Shilen #3 with 12" twist, Micky Edge and Leupold...7lbs 11 ounces.

My son has a 22-1/2" Whelen and he gets a 225 TSX or Accubond to just over 2700.
I assume this one will do the same. I might chrony it at some point.
As long as I know where it hits at 200 and 300 meters I'm not too worried about velocity.
Yes this is my third 358 win and my second 35 cal, I also had a 35 Whelen. I much prefer the 358 win of the two, however I have nothing to base it on as I have not taken any game with it yet, and will likely be a few more years as my boys are now hunting apprentice age and all my tags go to the boys, and they have their own rifles and calibers of choice. But I still shoot it and might take it for coyotes and groundhogs to satiate the thirst.
Yeah Ted, I should know better, practicality and gunnutitis are two very incompatible traits..
I shot 2 deer with my 358 Win. this fall just outside Almonte. The first a small buck, and the second a reasonable size buck. The larger buck was a heart/lung shot and he just turned 180 degrees and dropped. I was using 225 gr Barnes X bullets over 47gr IMR 4895. Really like the lighter recoil and like the stopping power.
Nice deer RobP. I know the 358 is a game dropper for sure, my friend who acquired my current 358 from used it last year to take a nice buck, a young bull moose and his best black bear, all in one season, all one shot bang-FLOP! Just nice to see it first hand as the trigger puller.
