I have been to the range a couple of times and I was fortunate enough to bring some of my own 9mm and I borrowed a gun to shoot. I will evetually be reloading my own ammo and was wondering on the proper procedure for picking up your brass. Do you pick it up after each string? Or do you pick it up and the end of the day when you are finished shooting. Cheers Troy

pick up what you see.. i dont pick up for weeks at a time. then i go to the range and spend 20 min picking up every thing 9mm. clean , inspect , reload. i have a 5gallon bucket. when its almost empty i start picking brass..

depends on the range, is it indoor or outdoor. it also depends on who else is there and what they are doing. you dont want to interfere with others' shooting time, but as a general rule all brass is picked up at the end, when all the courses of fire have completed.
Smell the air, and see which way the wind is blowing. If you are alone, do as you please within range rules. If you are with others on a concrete pad, sweeping up is a good housekeeping good neighbour thing to do while waiting to change/patch targets.
Just be sure to be seen to be considerate of others. Don't poach brass that's not yours, unless it's clearly been left behind.

I know at my range you need to grab your brass quick, I was shooting pistol one day and wandered over to talk to my brother who was several stalls over shooting his rifle, when I came back I had to laugh because all the othe pistol shooters were picking up my brass as fast as they could, it looked like someone threw a bucked of corn to a bunch of chickens.

At a commercial indoor range go ahead and leave them, they're pretty easy to sweep up off a floor and the range will likely sort em and sell em, but on an out door club range I think it's pretty disrespectful to leave them lay.
I usually pick mine up after each string. IMO not a big deal if you don't pick them up until the end of the day, but for f*** sake just pick them up. Sure I lose brass in the grass too, but I always make a point of picking up 1 for 1 or better, even if it's some crap steel casings or .22s for the garbage can. And if I'm shooting .22 I try to pick up 2 for every one shot.
I was out at the range once and an older gent laid out a couple of bedsheets before he started shooting. He told me that with his eysight it was easier to pick up the sheets than try to find his brass later. Of course the old bugger with failing eyes then totaly out shot me.
