Pickled Eggs THREAD

Okay. The remaining eggs are boiled, peeled and pickling. I felt the two softies in with the batch as well. I'm looking forward to trying them in about 10 days. :) But I think that I'll take Wally's advice next time and avoid the fancy crap, and I'll just stick to tried and true.

Glad you liked the pic. bnichols. How did your eggs taste?

The first batch with Wally's recipe after 4 days were an acquired taste....gotta like salt & vinegar....ate em all before they got a chance to prove themselves. The 2nd batch with Sprite instead of water taste real gooooood after 7 days. Only ate 1 and they may be better after 10 days but I've got a sweet tooth...

Yeah, a farmer who's making it this way (sprite, 7up) told me it was very popular, i just wonder if it make the shelf live shorter, especially if left at room temp in a sealed jar..

Yeah the Sprite sounds interesting. Back in the '80s I used to deliver pizza for a place that used Sprite in the pizza sauce. It was one of the 'secret' ingredients, I don't know how much of a role it played it the flavour, but it has a really good tasty sauce.

pickled eggs.... that brings back memories of being stuck in a small boat with motor problems with 2 other guys after a day of fishing, drinking pilsner, and eating pickled eggs.

guys, never had these before, i suckered out and bought a small jar of strubs eggs from walmart

holy fack: overloaded with vinegar, they were so sour they could peel paint, and i LOVED IT!

cant wait to start making my own, do you all use mason jars? or just put a pickle jar of them in the fridge?

I'm a quarter way through my jar of pickles..... gonna go eat one now.... please, someone drop in with beer and help me eat these things :D

Operation Pickled Eggs currently in progress :D !

The 100% vinegar jar already "popped", i am currently re-heating the 25% Sprite 75% vinegar jar in the oven since the solution was not warm to make the seal "pop" after the addition of the sprite :(.

I can't wait for the next week-end to eat them  !

By the way..Could the moderators make a sticky out of this thread :D !?

EDIT : well, the operation is partly a success :D ! I have 2 dozens pickled eggs in jars (one jar with just pure 7% heinz vinegar) and another one with 25/75 sprite/vinegar..

The only drawback are that the first jar didn't kept his seal when i moved it and the second never popped :(! I guess i should have let the sprite let off some Co2 before closing the jar..Thoses who did it with sprite could maybe give us some insight about this?

I still have pickled eggs for the next week-end that i will have to let in the fridge :dancingbanana:!!!

But hey, i learned a lot, that's what is more important (after having pickled eggs of course :D)..

My daughter and I had tried some of the eggs today. She liked them quite a bit, I loved them. They only have a slight amount of spiciness to them, the vinegar really cuts the heat out of the Purecap and the cayenne. I ate them while drinking a Newcastle style brown ale (homemade as well), I may be ordered to sleep in a different room from my wife. :runaway:
