Picky Remington Mountain 270

Son bought a Rem 700 mountain wood stocked in 270 win. Shoots rem cor lokt 130 and 150 real good, about minute of angle. Started loading Speer boattails. 130 grains Ok. 150 grain boattails are just terrible 3min of angle. Tested different OAL but no help, different loads of IMR 4350, no help. Tried these loads in a Winchester, it shot all of them OK.
Any thoughts as to why it doesnt like 150 grain boattails?

I'm not sure why your gun doesn't like boattails, but that has happenned to me with a model 70 lightweight that my son used for a couple of years. Some guns just like certain loads, others hate them.

I tried everything until one day I used a magnum primer and a flatbased hornady 130 gr bullet and voila. It was a 270 also.
 
My 270 Mountain Rifle seems to share your problem and it prefers a flat base bullet.
With a boat-tail it will frequently put the first two touching and the third round way off yonder.
I had it bedded and tuned up..... no difference.
Best bullet in it is a Nosler Partition by far and it does not seem to like any weight of Barnes bullets, not happy with Sierra, but it also likes Hornady bullets.
I am planning on selling it because my pre-64 270 is much less fussy...
 
I had an A bolt in 270 and it really liked Hornady 140 gr flat base over a max load of H 4831. Nice tight groups and consistantly break clay targets at 200 yards. Good enough for a hunting rifle.
 
Seems common

This rifle behaves just like Kevan's mountain 700. My son relegated this rifle to 130 grain loads for deer and bought another Remy 700 in 30.06 for heavier (moose) bullets. As for myself, I hate to let the boattails go but sounds like Partitions would the next purchase. I have some Hornady 140 btls I haven't yet tried and Accubonds I use in my Win70.
Some rifles give the reload bench a workout.

I went directly to the Nosler accuracy load for 150's which was 52.0 grains of H4350 and was more that happy - better than a minute of angle. This was with a 700 Classic which has a little thicker barrel than a mountain countour.
 
I cant really comment on your rifle but the 2 Remington 700 sporter weight barreled rifles I currently load for shoot the heavier 140-150 grain Ballistic Tips far better than the 130's.
