PICS ADDED: Did I buy a used shotgun? - UTS15

Possibly the slightest glance over upon receipt prior to sale by the dealer wouldn't have hurt either.

Sorry Ryan, originally I started the thread just regarding the bolt. I then called after members said it looks used. You guys have been very helpful. I did not or was not planning on representing you guys negatively. You guys are always helpful.

I would love to return it.... But there's an issue. I took your word it was new. Went out to try it out!

The shotgun catastrophically failed on the 9th round. I was shooting skeet, so just plain target load. 9th round the shotgun literally blew apart. The barrel ring was sheared and the shotgun upper flew off the lower.

Post pics, I wanna see this...

I have the same shotgun & have fired about 30 rounds. My bolt face looks to have a 1/4 the wear yours has and the rest of the bolt looks new. Your shotgun is definitely used & perhaps abused with insufficient lube, IMO. My bolt/carrier looked pretty dry. I guess they're pretty frugal when it comes to using lubricants at the factory. I'm glad I looked at mine.

I'll get pics up tonight.

Its not terrifying. Haha. Its the upper just jumped off from the lower when the ring sheared and became detached. and the back flap that opens to the action popped up.

Wow that's super weird, that barrel nut seamed pretty strong.. So it actually stripped the threads ??

Is it known what type of ammonthey use to test fire? Trap loads? Hunting loads? Slugs? Different loads produce different wear. Being that it has two separate feeding tubes one could speculate they fire a full mag through each tune to check feeding. If at the factory there was a problem and needed to be adjusted I would assume they fire another full set of tubes to verify. So could have upwards of 28-30 shots through it. More even if they had to re adjust after the first time. I don't expect any site sponsor would sell you a used gun. Chances are its all from factory. I wouldn't worry. If there were excessive handling marks that went along with this then it could be another story. Keep the gun, enjoy it.

glad you're ok, tagged to see the pics of the damaged shotgun, I honestly don't know why anyone would buy one after watching/reading reviews on these shotguns, they are just garbage.
the nutnfancy and even FPSrussias videos are enough to tell anyone to stay the fawk away from these, far to much money for "questionable" quality.

OMFG! That's unreal! I am so glad that I did not pull the trigger on mine and that I took it back, its just the shotgun that got hurt right, you are unscathed right?

I don't think i've seen a single good comment about the UTS15...this just adds to the pile.

Hickoc45 on the tube had a good review of the UTS-15, I so wanted mine to be a good gun but it is now on its way back to the distributor. I will not be pursuing purchasing another one! If only someone would make a pump gun like a Mossberg or Remington that had a drum magazine that held 25 rounds, now that would be killer!

OKAY. Time to make things clear on what happened

Don't get me wrong, I really like the shotgun! It was great when things were going right.

So here's my long and rough day with my UTS-15.

  • It arrived in the morning around 10:30AM. Super stoked and happy to get it, got it out of the box, held it, examined it, read the manual, opened the action. Noticed the bolt's face was fairly worn as stated in my original post.
  • I started a thread simply asking if my shotgun looked used. Just wanted an answer. Got one.
  • Called SFRC, spoke to Ryan, told me it was due to test firing and was normal. Read a few more people's posts on here, replied what I thought but what the hell, I'm not an expert. So I took Ryan's word for it. I never started this thread in any means to tarnish SFRC's reputation. They have always been helpful in resolving my issues on the phone and online. Hence why I never mentioned them and privately messaged.
  • Stripped and cleaned the shotgun.
  • Headed out to the boonies to give the shotgun a good test run with some skeets and buddies.
  • First couple of rounds I chambered were all misfires and light primer strikes. Thought it was strange. Kept trying, noticed I had to rack the shotgun firmly to get a proper primer strike.
  • Eventually started getting things going, I had NO feeding problems with this shotgun that so many people complain about. Just weird light primer strikes.
  • Started shooting it more once I got things rolling but then couple more rounds is when things went to absolute sh!t.

As I said, it was a catastrophic failure. And by that I meant the shotgun was no longer functional due to itself causing damage on its own. When I said it exploded, I did not refer to an explosion as in combustion of a round and shrapnel hitting everything. What I meant was parts just flew off here and there.

  • Louder than normal shot
  • Rear cover popped up a bit and bumped my cheek
  • Upper flew off and onto the grass
  • Action jammed pretty hard, took a while to wiggle it to working order
  • Tried reassembling but realized the metal ring was sheared.

I examined all my empty shells. They all looked normal. Just 7 1/2 shot, target load, Winchester, 2 3/4" shells. Not the ammunition's problem.

Here is the ring from what holds the barrel to the racking slide tube thing.

Here's under the barrel where the ring once was.

You're supposed to be a part of the barrel!

I believe this issue has happened already in a Wolverine Supplies thread.

Only this one thing lead to everything falling apart; which is technically a catastrophic failure when parts of your shotgun are falling off and flying around.

It was one of those moments of hearing a loud bang and things definitely not right. Seeing part of your shotgun fall off is not a good feeling. I was stunned. It was also embarrassing taking a new toy out all excited only for it to break after a few rounds.

As for anymore significant damage, there's none I can see right now. I'm exhausted and have work early tomorrow. Will keep everyone posted on how things go.

BRIGHT SIDE: I managed to hit 1 clay today :) Silver lining.
