Just about everybody who gets a 10/22 realizes at one time or another that a lot can be done to it to make it that much better. One of the first things that is usually done is the trigger then changing the barrel to some sort of aftermarket bull barrel. With the barrel change comes the need for a new stock as the factory sporter will not allow the bull barrel or will it? Here are some pics of the factory stock which I opened up the barrel channel, pillar bedded, and flatened out the forend to make it a lot more stable on the bags when bench shooting. I just primed with automotive primer, painted with CT Duplicolor, and clearcoated with CT Duplicolor clear. I think it turned out okay.

The only thing I need to do is throw the black Bushnell out and black base and rings and get some silver base and rings so I can install my silver Weaver T-36X.

Barrel

is a Green Mountain. I bought it used from a guy just outside of Brandon along with the factory laminated 10/22T stock. He got it shooting and decided he wanted a muzzle weighted barrel by VQ instead. He even gave me the best target he ever shot out of it. So I know it can shoot.

How does it shoot for me? Better than any other 22 I have ever had. I will let you know more when the stock cures enough to get it out on the bags.

I have gotten spoiled shooting a Benchrest stock. I have a tough time shooting a gun with a conventional stock thesedays or any gun with a trigger more than about 6 oz. The trigger on this the last time I checked it was around 1.2 lbs and I think that is heavy.

Great Job Calvi.n. You done good.

I know what you mean about the trigger. I shoot a Benchrest gun with about a 1.5-2oz trigger and switching to my 10/22 with a 1.8 pound trigger feals like it will never go off. I have a GM barrel on my 1022 and it will sure shoot.

Here is a stock I made for it out of the factory stock. I went the more benchrest style (wider foream) but it is by no means better.

That turned out pretty good. I was thinking about maybe getting a little more radicle but said the heck with it. I have enough time into the project and from the little bit of shooting I did with it B4 paint it is 10X more stable than the factory shaped forend. Like I said they are fun toplay with. I have done it once but never again.

The next 22 will be a real BR 22 on maybe a Hart or Swidlehurst action. I have to get the 6PPC finished first and shooting B4 I move on to the next project.
