Pics of my dot43 MG34 (UPDATED - Dialup beware!)

Won't work - the feed tray on an MG34 isn't long enough for the x63 round.

I do have a spare bbl though.

In any event, I'm working on an 8mm deal. Worst case, I'll reload. I have all the stuff for 8mm mauser.

You got one thing spot on. Buying a machine gun is like buying a lathe. It's the accessories that kill ya.

Just a few for the Vickers
3 belt loaders,
aiming stakes
aiming lights
spotlight kit
running spares.
Armourer's spares kit
different oil cans
Plotter,
handbooks
slide rules
Offset sights,
panoramic sight
belt boxes
two different ammo box brackets
clinometer
Spare barrel carriers
Canvas transport case
wood transport case
Tripod case
etc. etc.;)

Forgot to mention. different calibre barrels, feedblocks, belts, extractors.

The brass catcher arrived tonight but wouldn't fit right away. I had to do a little filing on the back tabs and shave a little excess leather off the front flat to make it fit. Probably not surprising given that many MG34 parts were hand-fitted originally.

Another photo prop arrived today - my 3rd Reich flag. I try to display milsurps against the backdrop of the flag of country of origin for MKL entries. I make NO POLITICAL STATEMENT with this flag - it is only used because it is the correct flag for these rifles.

Took some snaps to gauge how best to do the camera setup. Settled on 400 ISO, no flash, ambient white light. MG34 pics will maybe be done tomorrow night. Here's a teaser in the meantime. It's a byf44.

Awesome purchase Claven2, have you ever fired one before? I bet you'll be grinning from ear to ear the first time you take her out....

Does it still fire from an open bolt or has that been changed like they have to in the States?

Unfortunately, it's been changed to closed bolt. Basically it works the same except the round is pre-chambered.

Would be nice if it still went ratta-tat-tat-tat, but I'll settle for it going bang and not just being a paperweight.

i was speaking figureatively- i have no idea what these cost- last time i saw one it was a 1 k dewat #### and click out of the soldiers shop here- - myself , i've always liked to get get my hands on a double aa mount with tripod, but i've only seen them for the '42-ever since i was a kid and watched all those"bad" war movies- the mirsch ones, david wolper producing- i'm completely unfamiliar with the mg series- you still have to #### it twice like the m1919?

The MG34 has a tripod too, the Lafette 34. It's an expensive item in its own right.

The Semi-auto MG34's retail for about $4000 when they are available. Marstar often stocks them and that's where I got this one.

Once loaded with a belt, to #### it you have to pull the cocking arm fully to the rear and then push it all the way forward again until it latches closed. You are now ready to fire.

On the full auto version, select fire is chosen based on where you press the trigger.

Man, I fired about 2000 rounds from a '34 in Eastern Europe several years ago, what a sweet ride that was!!! My buddy has a CA version which is equally awesome. Last time I saw a '34 tripod for sale was withing the last year in Holland, price was around $3000USD. Not sure if it sold or not.

I doubt it did. They are easy to find in Norway in the $1200 range, but the shipping is what kills ya. On the order of $700 or so. Then there's duty, tax, etc.

Still haven't had it out yet :( Spring chores list and an expectant wife are delaying blastoff :( Luckily the EOHC milshoot next weekend will give me a perfect excuse to remedy this situation!

Nice looking dewat. Is the ammo can Yugo? What about the carrying handle? Never seen one before...

I believe the can is Yugo but I think they made a lot of the accessories postwar on German machinery, and the handle was put on to carry it by the previous owner, don't know what from though?
