Aquired this Trapper length Winchester 94 last month. What is weird is that it says Ranger on the barrel. Rangers only came in a model marked "Compact" had a short LOP of 12.5" and birch wood. This has Walnut and is the regular 13.5" LOP. It also has colour case hardening and no crossbolt. Its an angle eject as well. I cannot find any listings on this particuliar model in any of my books. I just installed a peep on it and hope to take it out soon.

Winchester used the "Ranger" name on Most of it's firearms....even 1300 shotties, model 70's etc.
Essentially the "Ranger" just meant it was the "Cheap" version;)

In the 94's case it was offered Mostly in a Standard 20" barreled configuration......standard 13.5 LOP etc. as well as the Compact Models with the shorter LOP and the shorter barrels.
The biggest diff for the "Ranger" vs the more pricey models was the Ranger's lack of checkering on the cheaper "hardwood?" stocks.

Being your Rifle is AE it was made after 84 (85?) when the AE was introduced. Most likely before the crossbolt safety came to be.

I'd guess someone took a Compact Ranger AE......replaced the wood with standard Walnut stocks and had it Case finnished at the same time. The Saddle ring is a nice touch as well.
Just my Guess though:confused:
Of course someone may discover some rare Trapper Model Winchester Pumped out that noone's heard of.....I hope someone knows more ?

It Looks DAM Nice though. Well done on an interesting score

I've heard some not so good stuff about the 94 in 44mag. Any of it true?
I'd like a trapper in 357(38spl)
OS

Never heard that! I hope it's not true!

I want a 94 in .44 mag ...is it worth it or should I save my $$$ and get an 1894?

I would love to get one in .44Mag. Were they made?

The only thing with the 94 Winchesters chambered in "Pistol" cartridges is the Rifles were meant for 30-30/38-55 cases etc.
They were "modified" to feed the shorter cartridges...some work well but if you get a Lemon they can be quite frustrating.
Leave them in Rifle Cals as they were meant for and the 94 Winnies are a Great Rifle:)

If I wanted something in a Pistol Cal I'd go with the 94 Marlin, or better yet a 92 Winchester or Browning clone etc. ;)
