Kevin M., a lot of the small bore guys I shoot with go that route and basically attach it to the stock with a a couple of dowel pins, remember you have to remove it to remove the bolt for cleaning. They basically carve a new cheek piece, some actually have different ones for different positions.
 
Just my 2 cents about dragbag/shooting mats. You carry your 4000 rifle in a poorly padded bag, then pull the gun out unfold the bag on wet, dusty, snowy etc ground. Walk on it get grass cutting on it. Then pack your gun back up in a wet dirty bag. I would recommend an actual drag bag that has back pack straps and large pockets for carrying extras (muffs,log book, bullets, food water etc.) then attach a shooting Matt to the out side. This is how I drag my gear around the range, it packs up quick and my rifle and glass stay clean and safe.
 
Doesn t a drag bag with external pockets become high drag low speed? I m curious as to what real snipers ( versus precision riflemen) use when it comes down to the "scoot" portion of the shoot-n-scoot.

there are other methods of carrying rifles and provisions around.
A few of the other guys were using Eberlestock backpacks which seemed to work very well also.

The Voodoo Tactical drag bag has a large external pocket for a log book, muffs etc.
It has plenty of MOLLE webbing both inside and out to customize it to your own needs.
It also has backpack straps that work very well.
As far as poorly padded it is not the case which is why the empty drag bag weighs 11.5lbs.
It can be dragged, backpacked or carried. It has straps with which it can be attached to a voodoo tactical or other backpack and dragged behind.

The primary purpose of dragging a rifle behind you is not because you are lazy or tired but for concealment which we are not concerned with at a course such as ours.
If your rifle cannot handle a few grass clippings or rain I suggest sitting on the sidelines.
 
I really like the Eberlestock packs, lots of different size to meet just about any need. Easy to carry, handles on each side, very comfortable as a backpack. I'm running the new Gunslinger 2 with the new frame and really like it, my buddy is running the Lo Drag a slightly smaller pack he really likes it as well.
 
Agreed Eberlestock rocks. Were you the one at the shoot with the gunslinger ? Nice pack but too big for my needs. I have the eberlestock AL2S sniper bolt gun scabbard and I really like that. Now I am shoping for a better pack to mate it with. i really like the TAG sniper pack with built-in rifle rest . It d be fine for shoots but too small for people who need to deploy which is defnately not me.

I think you guys are taking the turm drag bag to literal. I carry this bag and would never drag a rifle around the range. I don't know a about you but if I have over 3000 into a gun I am going keep it clean so I do not have malfunctions and mess up my compition that I have driven hours to get too. That being said if it was raining it would not stop me from shooting.

Like I said I just think it is easier to carry a mat with you and keep your bag clean and dry. As for weight of the bag I can deal with it b/c it keeps my investment safe.

It doesn't seem like rocket surgery to figure out that less crap getting into your weapon is preferable to more getting into it.

Sounds like someone's afraid of some extra competitors on his playground... just sayin'... :cool:

Don't try to make this into something that it isn't.
I'm not one to throw my rifle around but I'm not going to stay home because of a little grass and a little rain.
I know enough people like that when we're talking about cars.
Cars and guns should be used for their intended purposes.
When you're done you clean it up and put it away.

I encourage everyone who can make it out there to make it out there wether they're using a drag bag, a soft case, a backpack or even a Tactical Tarp.
For the price Barney is charging there should be a waiting list a mile long for the following clinic.
As some people have proven this past weekend it's not about having the best equipment but the preparedness and willingness to learn which makes the learning experience what it is.

The one exception is when we're talking about glass.
Get the best glass you can afford because it will serve you well.
Let me just say that there were quite a few scopes there which I was drooling over.

Yep mine was the new gunslinger 2 with the Intex frame. When loaded it does seem a fair size but it has compression straps so you can make it as small as you want, fully cinched down its not much larger than the scabbard. The original Gunslinger 2 without the frame is a little smaller.

My buddy's X3 LoDrag is a little smaller.

The other one to look at is the G3 Phantom, it's totally modular, the scabbard and the pack can be separated so you have just a pack and the scabbard can be utilized like a separated drag bag.

Am finding this post shoot follow-up gear/equip. discussion very informative. I'm that 'older gentleman'(d:h:;)) .. "drag bagging" about with a few surplus gas mask bags, 'n a cheapo hard case enclosing 'Ol Fugly, the 'better shooter than it's aimer is' 6.5mm bubba'd contraption.
Not the ideal accessories, eh!. LoL!.
However, at this advanced stage of geriatric decrepitude, one does get somewhat set in his ways. Alas ... those ways, they just dont work.
Can't afford me a better gun/scope anytime soon, but, damn sure will be pack'n baggage more hy-tec-ly, next I see y'all at a Hungry shoot !!!.

How long has it been?.

Borden. SRSA. FA's and full cap. 7.62's... Bren, Mg 34/42, MP40, FAL C1 and G3/HK91's aplenty.
Day/night shoots on reactive targets, para-flares. Tracer mayhem at night.
And, the 1000y walk down shoot. Reloads on the march. ... as many rounds for score as you could get off in 20 sec's., ... 'cept'n at 1000 & 900, they were 20 rounds for score in 5 min... very deliberate!.

I have a very similar "drag bag" to the condor type one Barney showed above. It works for my purposes, as a range mat and shoot and scoot cover. I then have a better Allen gun works drag bag that had pockets, a better retention system, Molle and pockets for gear. That way if I'm laying in the dirt with my condor bag and it gets damaged or messed up, oh well.. It's made in china!

On the kydex cheek pad. I have one on my m14, and it's pretty decent for snap shooting and rapid target accusation. But I wouldn't want to use it in my 700. It's been really handy having a pouch on the stock to carry some
Basics, tools, ammo, plugs. Not to mention it doesn't involve drilling holes in my stock. Which I don't know about you, taking a drill to my $300 HS stock is not going to happen.

don't be scared of the drill! Its super easy. I've done three of them just by eyeballing it. Turned out perfect. The Blackhawk Dragbag is the absolute best I've come across as my 3 years as a Sniper. It holds tons of stuff and is tough as nails. I've done no fewer than 25 stalks with it and it doesnt even have a frayed thread anywhere on it. So if you are in to stalking your neighbours back 40 (creepy) I highly recommend it. Other than doing that...pretty much anything should do.

I'm with ya on not wanting to drill my stock. I like the pouch better as well for carrying a few small things. I feel this all comes down to personal preference, doubt either is better than the other.

Totally agree with you. Every shooter is different, you just have to find out what works for you. I found personally using a drag bag that has to many pockets, straps and ammo hanging off it seems to be very cumbersome to use and lay on. I really like the look of those backpacks with the scabbard in them.
 
Hey whatever makes you comfortable behind the gun! Personal preference I just like the option for adjustability and the Tac Pro fits that bill as well as being designed by a former Sniper who understands the need to have a repeatable cheekweld.
 
Drilling a stock is no big deal if you ever want to fill the holes there is an abundance of product that fits the bill. The Tac Pro comes with a drill bushing! This helps keep things aligned. Another nice feature is they are designed to have a taper from but to muzzle end as well as have a thinner profile that hugs the profile of your stock no just a generic piece of Kydex bent over dowel. Really well thought out compared to the other offerings.
