Pics of the new M14s.

I'm not sure why but I can barely resist the temptation to buy one of these behemoths. It looks like it is made of stamped cheese and melted down Gumbies. I know they are of dubious quality and I always swear to buy only top quality items from now on, but damm. I still want one. For the love of God, why is this ???

Because the purchase price is worth it for the forged receiver alone. The only thing the previous Norincos absolutely needed most of the time was a different stock and rear sight pinion assembly (if you use the iron sights). These ones appear to have a usable stock, so they probably don't need anything more than a rear sight pinion assembly. If you buy a Norinco and put the difference between it and a standard M1A into modifying it, you will have a much better rifle for the same price.

They're all the fun of a Ruger 10/22, but with twenty-five times the noise, recoil, and muzzle energy?

I'd wager a cold Molson that the stock is new manufacture. It looks to be injection molded. After it was molded, it looks like some milling was done in the magazine well area from the top side.

TacticalII, does the receiver have additional numbers on the left hand side under the stock line like previous imports?

A little O.T.: Bell use to sell firearms and ammunition directly out of their store on Peppermill Court in Mississauga. I use to make a point of dropping by back in the day. They were one of the first companies to offer Italian single action handguns and revolving rifles. I use to pick up a brick or two a Aquila .22 rimfire ammo and Polish Olympic brand shotgun ammo whenever I was near. Too bad the store went all "new aged"

I visted them regularly. Those were fun times.

I'll have to check tonight. It does have the serial # on the side of the trigger group.

Yeah it seems that there are spot welds on the flash suppressor.

Looks good. I thought I narrowed and thinned my herd of M14s down to two pretty basic setups with a USGIed mockup one and a spare plain jane(recently made a chopped).

All very interesting. It seems to have a very dark park to it, as opposed to various batches of Norinco labeled ones which more greyish, blue/black.

Also to note, it is labeled Poly but not like those Poly Tech M14s where the barrel extended info the receiver(and where putting in a US bolt meant changing barrels as well)

Can you point them out, I can't seem to see them.

It looks very interesting. Can't wait until someone does a side by side comparison with one of the Norinco ones.

As for a few of the posters mentioning that they won't buy anything made outside of NA. That is a pretty funny statement. Even RCBS is having their presses cast in China now.

the stock looks like zytel..... and i'm guessing that because of this the stock liner is necessary........ Personally...... I'm much rather have fiberglass, much more resistant to flexing, heat and recoil stresses than zytel.

anyone throw a headspace guage on these yet? I'm prolly gonna have to buy one and evaluate it :D

markings look like china is pretending to follow the UN marking regs, importer and country as well as country of manufacture and a date.

But you can bet they only do it to rifles they are offically exporting

Pretending is an appropriate description. The part about the UN resolution that really gets me is about tracking and end user certificates.

@tacticalII: damn, but you're a bastard. ;)

Why did you have to post such nice pictures of that rifle???

Now I have to get one, too.
Even though I'm saving my money for a new car and absolutely can't justify a new gun.
