Picture of New HP 9

Those are factory made grips, so it probably falls under the same rules as the DLASK court case going on right now. The gun would not even be questioned if it has short barrel made by manufacturer and overall length was 660mm ( 26in.). The same gun with a folding stock or homemade pistol grip would be under the 26in length and prohibited.

Maybe he didn't break the law... Maybe the pistol grip wasn't screwed on the receiver yet... Was put next to it for the picture.
Otherwise it would be shorter than the legal limit.

Yup! - make it longer

When owning firearms in Canada it is important to first familiarize yourself with the laws governing them; ignorance is not an acceptable excuse to break such laws.

Your assuming I was serious when I said "I dont know, is it?". I know exactly what the letter of the law states and you sir should get over yourself!!:) LOL

Guys... PLEASE take the time to educate others in the community... This thread went south in record time and NO ONE even tried to set the record straight. As far as I understand, these short shotguns are completely legal as long as...

(1) it is a manufactured barrel length
(2) it is not made shorter by collapsing or folding

Anyone else have the specifics??? Please post, it helps to educate others and not divide us. I know it's like a broken record sometimes, but we have to take it upon ourselves to EDUCATE...

Cheers
Jay

Restricted firearms include:

Rifles and shotguns that can be fired when their overall length has been reduced by folding, telescoping or other means to less than 660 mm (about 26 inches)

Is it less than 26 inches?

"Other" does not mean installing a pistol grip. The CFC has ruled on this. There was a letter posted here from them. Otherwise simply removing the buttstock would create a restricted firearm. Simply put need tools = non-restricted, no-tools = restricted.

AMEN....now, I think there should be a sticky on that(there is one about re-registering) but a sticky on short barrelled from factory along with a copy of that letter would be handy I think.

For those who stick one in the car, truck, what have you....it might be wise to keep a copy of the letter somewhere with your registration. You never know what fool of a police you might get who thinks he/she can take away your gun on the spot for potential "illegal" status in his/her eyes
