My Norc SKS-D with Albainian bolt carrier and 5/75 round drum. Also has a mod for bolt hold open.

i just aquired a alby carrier , after years of searching and when i finally gave up , one fell on my hands ... thanks norseman .

question, any headspace issue when using a alby carrier with a norinco bolt ?

Hi Curtton, I think you might find that a different carrier may cause headspace problems to the bolt resulting in lightly struck primers with no bang. I put what I guess was a refurb black bolt on a chinese and it screwed it up. I liked the look but not the result

No headspace issue, as the carrier just guides and unlocks the bolt - headspace is controlled by the locking shoulder that's pressed into the receiver.

I don't think so. Headspace is achieved from the area where the angle is cut on the back of the bolt and the carrier. The length from there is where the bolt will go no further forward. If this length is changed by changing bolt carriers the result will be the bolt does not go into full battery

I think you'd best take another look - the carrier does not control headspace. The SAFN, SVT and FAL all headspace the same way - using a locking shoulder pressed into the frame.

Here's an excerpt fr SKS survivor

"I had the same problem with a chinese parts gun, the rounds were fully seating though, my solution was to get ahold of head spacing gauges and a file and remove maybe .003 =/- from the back of the bolt"

What does that have to do with the carrier? It is the bolt, as illustrated by your quote from SKS Survivor, that dictates the headspace. All the bolt carrier does is move the bolt back and forth...

Dave is right. Inside the receiver is a square milled recess near the mag well, that is what the shoulder of the SKS bolt locks into.

Ok, I guess I got it wrong. But how does changing the carrier result in misfires, as it did when I changed mine out
I'm thinking perhaps it wasn't letting the bolt drop into the recess (go into battery) far enough? The bolt has to seat completely to allow the sear to trip.

Here is a rifle I'm raffling off at the 2009 Vintage Service Rifle Championship
Terrace Rod & Gun Club
This was considered a Grade Two rifle from the retailer I purchased it from. I won't mention their name because they refuse to sponsor our shoot even though I gave them our business. Not even a discount! Oh sorry I can't help myself - Wolverine Supplies.

Nice SKS Riflechair. Where do we buy tickets? Thanks Dave, I guess it's not a headspace problem. I wonder what changes? Rail rabbitt depth/height or recess under the carrier
