Would someone with an NEA15 mind doing me a favor and positing a picture of their buffer return spring? Specifically the ass-end closest to the shooters shoulder/butt of the rifle.

I was cleaning my rifle and noticed something funky with my spring. It looks like someone cut the end off of it. Instead of kind of looping around on itself it just ends with a cut mark.

Buffer spring? Mine looks like this, same on both ends. Not the original owner, but I'm pretty sure it's still the original.

spring length for rifle receiver extension: 11 3/4 Inches (29 85 cm)
minimum to 13 1/2 inches (34 29 cm)
maximum.
41-43 coils in length

spring length for carbine receiver extension: 10 1/16 inches (25.56 cm)
minimum to 11 1/4 inches (28.58 cm)
maximum.
37-39 coils in length

If the spring was cut there must be a reason behind it and the complete rifle must be inspected to find what was being hidden.
it could be buffer weight, carrier weight or the most probable improper gas port diameter on the barrel.

I was getting stoppages with the round failing to get picked up and every 4-5 rounds I'd get a double feed. The company said it sounded like it was short stroking and could be a loose gas block. I sent it away and got it back pretty quick. Seems to work fine now but the spring caught my eye. They never said what was wrong eitger. I'll post a picture when I'm home. I'll measure the spring too but the rifle return spring instead of a carbine one sounds like a likely culprit.

So what was wrong with the gas block? I got a new 7.5 upper from sfrc...in 300blackout, and it seems the block is not staked properly. Barely enough.

Can I get a clearer picture of the spring end? Looks more broken than cut. What is the length on the spring?

Tagged...I'm curious as well.

I've heard (on rare occasions) of having to trim the buffer spring to tailor the rifle's cycle of operation, but that spring looks weird. Either it has had a very "bubba'd" modification, or something else has happened...definitely something missing here.

Please keep us posted...

That looks like it was cut, not broken.

I'm not saying it's what happened.........but it kind of looks like instead of fixing the root problem of it short stroking, they cut the spring to make it work properly.

You'll know for sure when you put a new spring in..........
