I got my rifle back from my gunsmith today. Just in time for my trip to Nunavut next week!

It's a BRNO 602 in .375 H&H. I had the barrel shortened to 20" for use in the bush.

The shortened 602 is the 2nd from the left. I have included a bunch of my other camp/field guns for comparison. Even with 5" chopped off the 602's barrel, it is still longer than the 1895GS (check out the M3 light on the Marlin - it can also be mounted on the Mossberg 500). The scoped rifle is another BRNO 600 in 30-06. Both have the same backwards to fire safety so hopefully I won't screw up under pressure. The revolver is a Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull.

BRNO/CZ express sights are much better than most North American iron sights for dangerous game.

I had the original front sight re-installed 3/4" back from the muzzle so that I can easily tape the end of the barrel.

I'm going to chrony the short 602 this weekend and will post the velocities I get with factory ammo.

I can cram 6 rounds into that big magazine. I think this is going to be a great do anything BC/Yukon/NWT/Alaska rifle. :D

Geologist, nice gun - it looks like a proper job. Bring a small triangular file with you to the range, it is possible that you may have to alter the sights slightly with the shortened barrel.

You should shorten the LOP while you're at it... nice(mean) lil rifle!

Next thing on the list. I want to try it out first at the range while I'm wearing field clothes and in a variety of shooting positions before I decide how much to reduce the LOP.

I figure I'll take off at least an inch.

That 602 looks good - you'll be happy with it. I like your dogs too!

You might want to consider removing the long range leafs on the express sight - some guys remove them so that there is no chance one will stand up at an inopportune moment. If I had kept mine original I'd of left them because I like how they look, but then I'm not very smart.

In case you don;t know, Gentry and Ed Lapour both make Winchester 70 style 3-position safeties for the 602 if you want to convert to a more user-friendly safety configuration. Should run around $150 or so.

Geologist,

By any chance did you chronograph a few rounds before the bobjob to compare to after?

My bet is you lose not a lot more than 50 fps going from 26 to 20 inches with factory 300 gr ammo.

I'll post the before and after muzzle velocities after this weekend.

I'll weigh her when I get home tonight. It's still pretty heavy, especially compared to the Guide Gun but that weight will be welcome when I'm shooting it off of the bench this weekend.
