The bigger the bore, the less velocity loss with shortened barrels... would this be a fair assumption?

Glad to hear it worked out for you. Sounds like a real success. The son in law 'gave' me a custom made 375 H&H, Sako action & Shillan (spelling) barrel. Just finished 'cranking' up some loads for it, so, time to go play. Point of interest, have you found any particular load or bullet weight that works really well?

probably has more to do with the bore/capacity ratio

a 375 Ultra would probably lose more fps per inch than say, a 221 Fireball

I've just started playing with the beast. I don't even have dies yet.

I'm scheduled to go to Nunavut soon so I'll just use factory ammo for the trip.

It's great to have a rifle that'll fit into my hockey bag!

I'm just in the beginning stages of loading & testing. Stocked up on some 'supplies' at P&d last week while I was in Edmonton. I'll keep you posted if I find something that really 'performs'.

Larger bores have higher expansion ratios, so lose less velocity.
