This is really weird.

Yesterday I was cleaning my AR... I removed the bolt group and looked inside with a flashlight and noticed on the opposite side of the door-opening a rather large area of bare aluminum.

It is about 5mm x 3mm; If you can imagine an automobiles finish with a chip in the paint and then the bare metal exposed... that is how it looks.

Is this just cosmetic or could it lead to problems? I heard that anodizing strengthens aluminum (which is the only reason why I am posting).

If it is nothing then I am ok with it (being that it is inside and unseen outside) heheh

Any replies appreciated.

It's an RRA upper BTW.

...would you relax already, just shoot the damn thing, there are going to be many chunks of exposed aluminum when you get around to shooting and not babying that thing...

What sparrow said.

It's common. Especially in the "half circle" area.

Don't worry about it unless you start to see gouging, or pieces of the aluminum missing.

I'm afraid Koldt and Sparrow are incorrect....the rifle is junk...ship it to me for disposal ASAP!:p

PS. Thanks for the turn on your 1100...very cool!
