Hi there everyone!

SO.
I've been trying to narrow down on a SAA to get,

I'm hard set on .357, and pretty much hard set on 7.5"

I WAS looking into the Ruger new vaquero, the reputation and the bar safety were intruiging,

but now I've decided I think I'd rather go to the original design (without the newfangled bar safety ;) )

I was looking into maybe getting a Pietta 1st gen peacemaker (case coloured, brass trigger guard/backstrap) in 7.5" and .357Magnum

Does CGN have any input into Pietta?
I've read some reveiws saying such things as "you can spend more, but won't get better," etc etc

they seem fine,

My only thing is, I really really want one in a finish of Matte grey (if thats what it's called) but at this point I've decided on case coloured/blued as matte grey doesn't seem to be offered by anyone on anything.

I don't know about Pietta, but be sure that any "original design" has a rebounding hammer, which was not in the original Colt, so that you can carry the gun with 6 chambers loaded.

isnt that was the little semi cocked position is for?

that's my point though, I actually would prefer it be closer to the original design (however unsafe it was)

my range only allows 5 at a time anyway so i don't mind haha

I have a pietta .45 with old style lockwork, and I am very happy with it, they are very safe if one uses his head, load one chamber, skip one, load four, lower the hammer on the empty chamber, and carry that way, nothing safer! I like having the half #### feature and the four clicks when cocking, just like the old days. And oh yah, no heavy loads in the Pietta.

I'll be getting the .357 magnum model..
what would constitute a heavy load in .357 magnum? (if it is anything above factory stuff thats fine, as Ill never be tempted to load over factory)

Sorry BBQ....I have no experience with the .357 Mag.....so i could not tell you what pressure levels you are looking at, and if the same warning is required as the .45 Colt, the .357 Mag. will have alot more meat between the chambers though!!

If I don't miss my guess, what you're talking about is the Antigua, or "Antigue" finish offered by Uberti. Looks like the well-worn grey patina of a 100 year old Colt, except it's brand new with a warranty. Uberti's are solid, well made wheel guns. Well worth their asking price, if you ask me.

I haven't owned any Pieta's yet, but they have a decent reputation. They don't have an antigue finish, though.

Some might find it goofy to buy a new gun that looks 100 years old:cool: - but, for reasons I can't explain, I think it looks great. Put my money where my mouth is and bought one in .357 almost a year ago, now.

Rock solid revolver, never had even a hint of trouble with it, and I do love the look. Sure takes the drudgery out of describing how much wear there is to the case colours or the blueing.
