Hi all,

What's the best method to replace the front sight on a SAA clone (Pietta, in this case)? Slot and stake, slot and press fit or something epoxyish? Not looking to solder if I can avoid it due to bluing concerns but I've heard of folks having issues when trying to press fit or coming loose from a poor stake. It's a new(ish) barrel of the same length with no existing front sight.

Always struggled when attaching things without a screw or bolt...

Thanks!

Steve

I did a Uberti SAA that I had lost the front sight from. Built the new sight from a piece of pure brass, lots of grinding & filing but finally got it to "match" the original. I "final sized" it to be a slightly tight friction fit in the barrel groove, then I cut two small grooves (one on each side) lenghtways in the base of it that would be hidden by the barrel steel. These grooves are to hold a bit if the JB weld I used as the holding compound, creating a bit of a "wedge" effect with the JB.

That was 5 yrs ago and altho I sold the gun I do know the current owner and he uses it regularly and Its still holding.
