Pigeon hunting

The problem we have here is feral pigeons bringing disease to the farms, they're the really easy ones to shoot as when one drops from the sky the others all think he's seen food!

I have eating pigeon while visiting Belgium, it is otherwise known as Squab. It was comparable to Cornish Game Hens. As far as eating the ones that hang around the grain bins here, I don't really know for sure. I shoot them for the Hutterites, but because of the disease rumour, I don't eat them, but the pigs do.

Squabs are what we call the youngsters. Ferals are sought after alive as squabs by the pigeon racing lot. No idea why not many can outrun an ounce of N0 6 shot!

My dad places some wheat around the corner of the barns for them. Then step around the corner and blast them.He shoots them because they #### all over everything.Get 5 or 6 at a time.

We decoy them on crops or stubble, new winter oil seed rape is a favourite until it gets to ankle tall then the birds look for peas etc. Some people make a living from it and the Govt used to issue cartridges for free back in the 50's.
