Fellow Gunnutters,

first the easy one, I am looking to put some pillars and bed my rem 700 bdl, where can I find some??

Now the safety, its on the same gun, it will go to the ''safe'' position easily but then I need to gently tap it with something eavy to get it back to ''fire'' it functions well as for its intended need, will not fire on safe... any ideas?

any info appreciated on this

thanks

I use 1/4ID brass tubing. You can find this at some craft stores and any place that sells R/C airplane stuff. Of course, you could get a lathe and bore out some rod but that's more work then I care for.

I would send that rifle to a smith or Rem repair depot. A safety should be easy on, easy off. The need to hammer the lever could break the lever at best or cause a discharge at worse.

Odds are there is a burr or flashing somewhere in the trigger group. Maybe even the detent ball is off. Get it fixed.

I think you're right Jerry,

will do that for sure!!

Still can't make up my mind for the pillars, Since this will be my first bedding job, I think i'll pass this time on the pillars....

Thanks

is the rifle in the stock when you are trying the safety? It could be rubbing which would mean an inletting problem...

i have made pillars out of various types of pipe as long as they have 1/4" inside diameter. Put some grooves around the outside diameter so that the glass has a place catch and contour the top to fit the receiver and away you go.

You can always add the pillars later. Just drill out the screw holes bigger and epoxy the pillars in. Do assemble the rifle together so that alignment is maintained.

My local hardware store has started offering 90sec cure epoxy. That sure speeds things up a bunch. I just started my 6.5 Mystic stock and did the pillars yesterday. I doubt this fast cure epoxy will be significantly weaker then a slow cure kind.

A bit of fitting, bedding, adding the rear stock and shaping.
