Hey fellas - I bought one of those chit house garden variety Rem 700 SPS bolt guns with the 20" bull barrel. I love it and it will be a range/camp gun for the most part.

I don't need all the farkles but the fuggin internal mag on this thing is starting to tick me off. I am having problems with what I think is called 'dip and dive'. If the rounds don't go in just right, the front of the cartridge goes nose down and the bolt can't grab it when it goes into battery - and it bungs up the gun. To clear it I have to pop the floorplate and dump the rounds out through the bottom. Is this an IQ test that I am failing or a problem with the gun?

Is an after market mag assembly available? And what kind of mags are available? A 10 shot would be really cool... I am also toying with the idea of one of those extra-large bolt knobs the cool kids have - how do they work?

Your two cents is sincerely appreciated as always.

You have lot's of different options for a DBM (CDI, Surgeon, Badger, etc.). The only thing you want to be sure of is that it takes AI magazines, and yes ten rounders are available.

An extended bolt knob is a matter of preference, if you feel it's lacking in ergonomics or aesthetics then go for it.

larger boltknobs work like a charm on few larger, BR, tactical stocks.. however on field stocks, it looks like a mole on side of my face.

You would be spending few hundred to be able to change to mag feed so if you are thinking of changing the stock in the future.. than save money and buy a decent stock with mag feed. and maybe get the bigger bolt knob with it lol

Yeah I suppose that would look goofy. But I like that Cheap-O stock! Some more futzing about is definitely in order...

I don't remember the brand name, but NorthShore Barrels has a drop in kit for your rifle, the bottom metal and two mags. Any bottom metal for AI mags will require inletting and I don't think the "cheap-o" stock will accept it.

The bolt knob is a must, all the cool kids can't be wrong ;)

Good luck
