Anyone have a link or diagram showing how to pin a 15 or 30 shot carbine mag to 5? Or a good place to buy one? Looking at a carbine with no mags, and I was sent a link for 15 and 30 round mags for sale on ebay.

1st you CANNOT bring into canada rifle magazine OVER 5 rnds they MUST be pinned BEFORE entering canada.
most are pinned with a pop rivit BUT canada customs sometimes will NOT accept a pop rivit and will destroy the mags

2nd you cannot get mags out of the states unless the person/ company complies with US export regs

buy your mags in canada no hassels

Hi Mike,

It's quite simple to block the M1 carbine mags. All you need to do is grind off the little protusion on the bottom rear of the follower extention. Then mark a spot centred on the rear of the mag body 1.875" from the bottom of the half-circular top of the mag body. Drill a 1/8" hole and put in a pop rivet. The rivet will not interfere with the carbine's action when you insert or remove the mag. The process is identical for either the 15 or 30 round mag. BTW, you must assemble the magazine before putting in the pop rivet otherwise your'e SOL and have to drill out the rivet.

Or you can punch-dimple the side of the mag at the 5 rd mark. Invisible once mag is inserted. You have to heat up the area with a torch first or the punch will go through the side of the mag body ;)
 
This is how mine are done, looks easy enough.

Rear divot is centered about 1 and 9/16" from the top of the rear lip

Front divot is centered about 1 and 7/16" from the top of the front lip

Of course the mags work as expected, and can be disassembled etc with no problems. And Sunray, just you know, these are 'non-restricted' mags.

If I do get this, I think I will just buy a mag in Canada, thanks again for the sources. This string has exactly the information I was looking for, I'm saving this page for future referance in case any unmodded mags ever do show up (are they common in Canada?). And btw, I do know the carbine is restricted with the original 18" barrel, and I do know this is a public forum... :p

Hey Mike, I dont know if they are common, but they are around. It's the usual routine, disassemble them if they are not already, and don't assemble them untill they are legal.
 
No problem anyway, lots available already modded to 5 shots as I found out from the replies in this thread (thanks again!). I expected the opposite, I guess these guns are more popular than i thought. I don't think of them as a really practical gun for hunting, just a nostalic plinker. I'm surprised there's so much interest in them here in Canada.

Sorry to bring back to life an old post....

but I just want to make sure the concensus here is that this is a legal option. I think this option would look much better than riveting, and easier as well. Thanks Gentlemen!

I used to just spot weld a piece of strapping on the follower insert 5rds cut strapping to leaght done took all of 5min and looks untouched.yes I still have a spot welder and strapping
 
i do mine the same way the norc 14 mags are done. make a tin / steel peice, and rivet it to the folower on the inside. can still take the mag apart then, and if the rules ever change, the mag body isnt damaged.
