Well the girlfriend has been bugging me that she wanted her own gun to shoot. Since it was our anniversary and I am horrible at picking gifts I figured I'd make her this. (I know bad gift but I didn't get into too much trouble for picking something that I probably wanted more then she did.)

I got the stock kit from Hi-cal who I can't speak highly enough about. Great to work with. I ordered the Duracoat system from a different website but since they aren't a sponsor I'll keep quiet about that. Not sure if any of the CGN sponsors sell duracoat but I didn't have any luck finding it. Let me know if anyone does as I'd like to support the CGN community. As for the 10/22 I got it from Wolverine (as well as a remington 700 - If she gets a new toy I need to get one too!) and they were excellent as well.

Here's the kit alongside the barebones 10/22 (got a free stock now by the way if anyone wants it. I'm in Regina and looking for new people to go shooting with all the time so could be a good excuse to pick it up and go pop off some rounds)

I assure you that glass is just dirty Regina water ;) Everything is easy to take apart and those little magnetic parts holders from canadian tire are lifesavers.

The kit comes with an extended magazine release and bolt hold open that were a cinch to change out and necessary as it gets pretty tight around the front of the trigger guard with the stock on. As you can tell I have the finest of high tech implements to pop the pins out. As a side note make sure you have all the pins put back in before you put the stock on. I noticed I had one leftover after I got excited and rushed to put it together. Oh well at least I got practice at taking it all apart and putting it back together again.

After the first coat of black was on and dried it was time for the decals. They were nice (almost plastic and thick) and you can't really tell from the picture but there was fine details on the edge that turned out awesome. I had a little trouble getting it into some of the contours but in the end it turned out nice. One thing I'd definitely recommend is using an air compressor. I started out using the cans but the pressure varied so much and they were a pain to use so I finally sprung for a small compressor to use.

Had to spray a couple layers of white on afterwards, I guess so the pink pops out more. Took a while to cover the black but it turned out eventually.

Once the white was done a couple coats of pink shot on and then just some minor strips to give it accents

And here's the finished product. Even though the duracoat said it was ok to use on the barrel and all other parts I just figured it would be easier to just paint the stock and leave the site rail and mock suppressor alone. Kinda like how it turned out anyway, not over the top on the pink.

After I got the stickers off I sprayed on a couple extra layers of clear coat. This is where the compressor really seemed to help. I could jack up the pressure and it would spray the thick clear without having to thin it down. On the pistol grip and at the front where your hand goes I screwed around with the airbrush settings and managed to get it to sputter a bit so it gives it some texture.
