Hi,

Recently I purchased a .50 Beowulf ar compatible magazine. However when i received it, it was pinned at capacity of 2 for the 50 Beowulf mag. Is it legal to remove the pin to increase the mag capacity to 5, or is it illegal to perform any mag modifications in Canada.

Thanks!

Why does that matter ?

Easy there tiger.

It doesn’t matter for him... It matters for me. I, like a thousand other Nutterz here this weekend, have an AR lower inbound, and I’m playing with the idea of 450/458/50. 50beo mag owners seem to outnumber 50beo rifle owners 100:1. Given the Op’s statement, I thought he might be one of the few I could get an opinion from.

Now, as I recall, YOU happen to have almost every gun under the sun... do YOU have a 50?

Im in the middle of getting a conversion kit in my hands and the mags are sparse so when I found one online I jumped on it. Kinda disappointed about the 2 rnd max.

See?! Lol.

I dont need to own a 50 upper to enjoy my legally acquired property. The RCMP interpretation isnt law.

Now it sucks that the new mags are pinned to 2 and altering them is illegal. But im sure our orgs are fighting for us and this will be resolved shortly.

Forgive my ignorance:

If beo mags are restricted to 2, then doesn’t that make every 5 round 223 mag out there an UNsparse 2 round beo mag?

Well yeah assuming the feed lips are wide enough, but I thought I was purchasing a 5 rnd .50 beo mag. Obviously not the case.

So does that make existing 5 rnd beos illegal?

Nobody really knows.

That argument goes in circles. The semantics of the discussion are endless.

One guy was indeed charged for having them. But the Crown dropped the charges before it went to trial.

We don't know which way a judge would have ruled. It really could have gone either way.

5 rd Beus are a thing of the past. Another victim of our asinine gun laws.

So... this is something I brought up during the buttler creek fiasco too, but: Who tells you?

If “Bob” walked into his LGS a few years ago and bought a 50beo rifle, and a few mags... he goes to his small local range once in a while to plink with it... then suddenly the horsecops reinterpret something... but who tells Bob? How does Bob know? Bob doesn’t have time to surf CGN, or hang out at the gun counter absorbing gossip...Bob just has a 5 round mag for his semi-auto rifle just like the regs allow, and has no idea he’s in possession of a naughty, do-not-pass-go mag. How could Bob possibly be expected to know. And if the horsecops DID bring the hammer down on him, how could he possibly not win in court and set a precedent?

I mean, heck, forget Bob even, how is the local constabulary supposed to know? They go to the range and see Bob shooting an AR that looks like every other AR, and goes bang 5 times like every other AR...

Thats for you to research and make your own decision.

I legally purchased mine from CanAm. They have not sent me a email saying these are now illigal. Neither did the CFC.

Until im officially contacted i use them as I see fit along with my 10/30 pistol mags.
