Ive been looking at my Norc 5/20rd M14 mags and wondering do they modify the spring when they pin them? My followers on these mag have a "keel" that make them only operable in the 1-5rd range, is the follower the only difference between pinned Norc mags and unpinned mags? Or do they increase the spring strength to improve their cycling in the 1-5rd range? I ask because the mags seem stiff to load, and havent loosened up much from use. I cant imagine what loading one of their 20rd unpinned mags must be like, youd have to step on it to load the last few rounds in seems.

The pinned five rounders are put together in different ways...the ones i have aren't difficult to load. When I think back to my days loading 20-round FN mags, I don't recall them being difficult to load either.

Speaking purely theoretically, I suppose someone who was, like, totally an anarchist could disassemble their mags even removing the pin to figure out how to set them up better, and then repin them with a pop rivet...but it would be illegal and wrong so you shouldn't do it...

Nah id rather not, even at 40$ Id rather not destroy one lol, I notice Marstar does sell unpinned mags, I was hoping someone had knowledge of them or the appropriate licenses to have tried them.

My Norc 5/20 round mags have welded on bottom metal So there is no way to even check.
Are they fairly new or older? Ive been buying mine from Marstar and they can be taken apart and cleaned, also instead of being riveted they have a long spring guide on the follower or keel as I'm calling it that bottoms out. Its welded on which I like so I know its not going to fall out making me pitch it in a lake ASAP.

Does the follower slide up and down the mag tube really easy when apart? Maybe the follower got screwed up when they welded the keel to it. I highly doubt it if they modified the spring in it. If it was a pinned mag, I would have guessed that the rivet was too long and the spring was hanging up on it.
