Hey guys! Just a dumb question for a new guy :D I've noticed that you can always see the rivet head on magazines pinned to 5 rounds. I was just wondering if you could pin them in a fashion so you don't see the ugly rivet head? As long as you can only put 5 rounds in it, it should be legal right?
Only reason I ask is because I've come across a couple pinned m1 carbine mags and want to get rid of those stupid rivet heads ( if I can legally that is ) And I mean something you can't take out when you disassemble the magazine ( like a block of wood or something in that manner I'm pretty sure that's illegal )
Thanks for all input in advance!

Cheers
Joe

The thing is, the way the laws are written, the change has to be "permanent". It's not really defined, but a block of wood is not generally considered a permanent block. A rivet is acceptable, but even that can come under scrutiny. What I did for my M1 carbine mags was to disassemble the mag, solder a metal rod to the follower, pop the pin, then reassemble. This hides the block inside, is somewhat permanent, and you're legal.

there's so many ways to tackle this it isn't funny- and there is NO SET way- what i did was extend the follower with a metal rod and pop rivet the floorplate shut- granted, you can't take apart for cleaning, but you can't see the ugly rivet either, and it doesn't dig the heck out of your gun the way a spine rivet does

you could use a countersunk rivet... the one i'm thinking of is called a cherry max.. part number cr3212. But there must be countersunk pop rivets that aren't "aviation".

Yes- They is these guys what write these magazines and then pin them onto the bullet-tin board.

(sorry I could not help meself.)
