alrighty just to clear up a couple things. this rifle does not belong to me nore is it in my possesion , second i advised my friend to remove the mag just to make things slightly less sketchy .3rd i searched on here and didnt find any thread on this topic ( but if there is please set me up with the link).

heres the issue a buddy of mine got his hands on a sks and the pin has been drilled out he is looking to make it legal. whats the easiest way to re pin this mag?
thanks for your time hope i dont catch any flak for this post lol

If the pin has been drilled out, replace it.

Pretty hard to say exactly what to do because there are all sorts of modification methods.

replace it with what exactly? i was thinking of cutting down a small bolt and tacking it in the exsisting hole. im looking for the best\easiest possible fix lol he doesnt need the RCMP coming after him lol. what kind of methods are ya talking about Tiriaq

If you can't or don't know how to pin the mag yourself, purchase an already pinned replacement mag from one of the reputable dealers you see listed at the top of this page. Dispose of old magazine in the deepest lake you can find.

The neatest alteration replaces the follower spring guide pin with a longer one. It is functional and invisible.
Sometimes a post is welded to the follower arm. Not externally visible.
There are the really ugly ones with the large wart on the outside of the magazine cover.

i just talked to him and hes not overy concerned with cosmetics just being legal. so if he were to drop in a bolt put the nut on on the inside of the mag then strip the bolt making it damn hard to remove would that apease the 5.0

Here's one method where a piece of steel has been riveted onto the follower. This stops the follower from going all the way down to the bottom of the mag so it can only hold 5 rounds.

fat tony is referring to the link I posted at the bottom of the first page. Yes, $25 is a lot if he is handy and willing to do the work himself (particularly on a $200 rifle).

I hate the SKS pinning methods that cut through the bottom of the mag destroying part of the Serial number or the ones with a large rivet through the bottom. Totally unnecessary and very ugly!

So mags are pinned to 5 rds. Where is this done...in China...at the importer, or somewhere in between? My new SKS CM looks like it was built with the 5 rd mag and stored for 50 years. I would expect some kind of color mismatch or tooling marks but my eyes can't tell . I wonder if this was done just prior to shipping to Canada. It's from Marstar.
