Pinned vs Threaded SKS barrel identification

I'm familiar with the pattern of pinned barrel illustrated in the link, but isn't there another type of pinned barrel that has given problems with the barrel shifting?

Military production Type 56 carbine pinned barrel models are well made. There is no appreciable difference in accuracy or durability with military made threaded barrels. This method was adopted for production by most of the 2nd wave production factories because it allowed for simpler manufacture.

The problem barrels exist in some of the recent Canadian imports which have used salvaged threaded barrel receivers and a threaded sleeve into which the barrel was pinned. This is not a military spec method of construction and was probably done merely to use up old parts for carbines destined for commercial sale here.

I've never even seen one that looks like this, what do they look like? The ones at Lever are pinned for sure, but they just go straight into the reciever, no ferrules or sleeves or nuthin.

The UberFAQ also states that the barrels were interference fits with the recievers (ie; the reciever was heated, the barrel cooled/left ambient, and the two parts were pressed together), as well as being pinned, but I haven't seen this statement made anywhere else. Can you confirm this fact, eos?

Check the milsurp knowledge base under "links to collector websites" for the last link in the SKS section, Yooper John's SKS Rifles Web Site. It has some pretty detailed pictures of what is what in terms of heavy barrel lug vs short barrel lug, and pinned vs threaded barrels.

There was a particular batch last year or so which followed this pattern. 04 prefix serial numbers (commercial pattern Chinese serial -indicates year of manufacture) shortened barrel (18.5 if memory serves) no bayonets and a rubber butt pad in place of the normal steel one. The Simonov page will not list this variation because this is a recent modification which cannot be imported into the US.

Initially only one pin was used on this series but Lever recalled them for a second pin to be installed. Note that the pins go vertically on each side of the receiver. On the military pinned barrel model, the single pin used is much larger and goes horizontally through the lower receiver. As well the barrel on that (military pinned) model does not have an enlarged chamber shoulder area but keeps the same contour into the receiver.

It would seem that current imports are of the military variety with mil spec parts.

Here are some pics of the 04 series commercial SKS sent to me by another member last year:
