Ok,
I want to do this. For the same reason I went to an HK USP with no external safety (variant #3, DA 1st shot, no safety needed)

I would hate to be shooting a match and do a mag change and then find out my grip (which I know should be exactly the same everytime), may be off and then I have to pause and restablish the "perfect" grip in order to shoot the gun. Does anyone have an directions or references to a step by step diagrams to performing this task? Or does has anyone done it and think they can do it to my new edge?

just grind off the tab on the inside of the beavertail that makes contact with the trigger bow. once you take it apart you'll see what I mean. I don't see a huge need to do this, I've left the safety functional on all my competition guns with no problems.

I pin mine I will send you some pictures when I'm back to home away from home.....I'm in Bermuda at the moment.... :) Ya I know my job suck's...... ;)

Could you explain why this would be done? I am not trying to be a smart-a$$,
but after owning and shooting 1911's (and an XD) I can't figure out why some people pin the grip safety on 'competition' guns. Maybe I don't compete enough but, I can't see how it would make any difference to speed or accuracy in any way. Sorry for the hijack!

Bluesclues, its a pre-emptive move to insure that you never get a hiccup by getting a slightly incorrect grip. We are going after the gun in a very fast and aggressive manner and sometimes the grip isn't as good as it could be. I aggree with you on the matter, but like anything else on a IPSC gun personal preference is a major issue. Some people put a stainless steel magwell on an STI for added weight and/or to have a good contrasting focal point during reloads. I use them because shiny things make me happy.

AHHHH! I see what you mean. I see where rear of the bow slips under the tip of grip safety. It was very tight (tolerances) and looks to be a part that works in with use. I few 100 times of running it under the tip with some contact has improved it some. When I do a complete strip I will just polish /trim that area a bit.

I have seen people who use a high thumb on the safety hold , lift the beaver tail enough to cause the grip safety to not work the way it is supposed to. It sometimes can be cured by using a flat mainspring housing , something about with the flat mainspring housing the heel of your palm keeps the high thumb position from lifting the beavertail.

thanks, that actually clears things up. Personal preference is indeed reason enough.

Ending hijack now.
