pinning mags

That'd be like going to a gunsmith with an "live" Grenade and asking him to make it legal.
If I ever came across mags like that, I'd definitely double-check to make sure that you didn't overlook the fact that it already had a hole drilled in the mag body somewhere (spine/back) and a rivet (Home Depot/Canadian Tire) placed in it to ensure that no more than 5 rounds could fit (rifle) or 10 rounds (pistol).

I have converted several. I have recently seen unpinned mags with the handgun from an estate released from a police department to a sporting goods store with the stipulation they get them altered before selling them.
The law is being ignored generally. I don't think any criminals who have been caught robbing banks with these over capacity magazines have been charged either.

I know people who get charged with "prohibited device" charge. Be safe.
Anyway, I'm resurrecting this topic to avoid creating a new one. There is a good thread on pistol mags, but my concern is rifle mags. My question about tools and process, to make it easier, let's review AK mag or VZ-58 mag.
This is my understanding of the process:
1) Make a whole in the right place
2) Pin it with Rivet Tool from Canadian Tire (Is it any good anyway?)
Questions:
What diameter should I use? I assume it depends on rivet size. Something to watch for?
How do I place rivet? Do I have to take the mag apart or it can allow me to do it without assembly? (I never used rivet tool before).
I have a good idea how to figure where to drill, but riveting is new for me.

the tools are easy to use, just drill hole in right place
the size of the rivet you are using -say 3/16" put the
rivet end that looks like a nail into tahe tool, push the
other end of the rivet into hole , squeese handles till it pops
the nail out and you are done, unless you did not drill the hole
in the right place, start over
For one or to jobs like this you just need a cheap tool,
but they are handy for lots of jobs- You can get all
types of rivets ( not a crappy tire)
