So first pistol I'm looking at the -

Glock 17 GEN 5
SIG P320

Both 9mm the sig being about $200 cheaper
Cost wise I can go either way I'm not sure what to compare
I've fired the Glock which was fine but haven't fired the SIG
Which pistol would you buy and why?

Thanks

I don’t think that you’d go wrong with either, really. I like them both very much, although I think i like shooting the P320 a bit more. The Glock has a well-deserved reputation and better aftermarket support, though.

320 is not drop safe unless it's new stock. Their triggers are a$$ with zero reset and almost no wall before the break.

Tried the 320, absolutely terrible trigger. Being a Glock guy, I can admit the factory Glock trigger isn't the best, but a simple 20 dollar connector absolves it to my liking.

From a completely irrelevant point of view, there was just something aside from the trigger that I just didn't like about the 320. Didn't spend enough time with it to pin point it. Maybe it just felt like a cheaper gun. Maybe if I could find one for around 300-400 I'd consider it, anything more and I'd rather just buy another Glock.

As others have said, try them for yourself. That'll tell you more than any interweb forum rambling ever could.

I've shot both. I'm a Glock guy. I didn't love the 320. The trigger is really bad. I bought a Glock 17 Gen 5.

Unless you're left handed, Gen 4 Glock. Save some money over the 5.

I disagree. I'm right handed, and wouldn't buy the Gen 4. I hate the finger grooves. Any time I shot the Gen 3's and 4's the finger grooves would dig into my fingers. The Gen 5 handles like a dream in my hand.

Bought 2 p320 pistols. One original and the other the p320rx that i just received about 2 weeks ago. Both have scratches on the slide coming from the factory. It could just be dumb luck or sig's quality control inspection is a piece of {hit. So my advice is if you're going to buy a sig, either ask for a lot of pictures or inspect it personally before buying. The gen5 glock finish is looking pretty good in terms of durability from my albeit limited experience with it.

If someone feels that strongly about the finger grooves they can always remove them. Personally I'm not sold on the gen 5s based on the ones I've handled. Obviously that statement is anecdotal and only based on the four that I've handled.

The Sig came out with a lot of fan fare I believe it was to be a "Moduler" gun but the popularity seems to have waned.. I considered it but with the confirmation of the previous posts on the trigger and quality control I have to pass..

I have 3 popular polymer pistols, Sig P320, M&P Pro and Glock 17 and 34, gen 3 and gen 4. I have 2 of each brand except 3 on the Glock.

If you don't mind the boring look and reliability then pick the Glock up, any models are fine.

More than that, other brand are just side dish, just to have and having fun with them. That's all.
Don't get me wrong, they are awesome pistol but what more you asked for when Glock is already ticked all the boxes.

Have you handled a P320? It's somewhat bigger/longer than a G17, if that makes a difference in your choice(s).

The p320 x5, btw, is pretty nice to handle also. I saw one at 1250$ and I thought it was 'expensive', until I saw that a lot of places it's more expensive.

I’m kidding. If it’s gone through the recall process it should just be striker fired. Apparently tr design that won the army contract would fire if it was dropped or hit on the rear of the slide hard enough.

I have a 17 Gen 4 and a Sig P320; got them both used. Got the Glock first and swapped out trigger parts (disconnector a basic Zev Tech spring kit); it is fine, but not as nice as my Shadow or older S&W's. Got the 320 'cause somebody freaked out over the trigger recall, and I got a half decent deal. It came with the small frame and I find it fits my hands way better than the Glock. Maybe the guy that had it before did some work to the trigger, but it has a very minor creep and then it breaks clean (much nicer trigger IMO). The Glock would be gone now if I needed the cash, and I did not own a JR carbine.

Step to the next level and buy a PPQ M2 5". The gun has the best trigger of any of the polymer striker fired guns, will out shoot a Glock and is 100% reliable. Sights can be changed at home in about five minutes if you want FO or night sights, mags run about $75. which is pricey. The Gen 5 Glocks are just out and are a new pistol that looks like former Glocks but isn't. Same old uncomfortable grip, new frame, new trigger assembly, slide and barrel. The Gen 5 has been upgraded with an improved trigger group and a more robust slide. If you like Glocks the Gen 5 has a lot going for it. It just doesn't quite climb the ladder to the next level. Today there are a number of quality striker fired makes. Pays to look around.

Take Care

Bob
ps I only put 20 rds down range with a 320 and found the trigger to be quite good with a crisp break. Definitely better than any Glock I have shot stock or improved.
