Pistol air guns

Carefully steer clear of the likes of such names as Feinwerkbau, Tau, Drulov, Morini, Hammerli, and such.

I can pretty much attest, that once you shoot a couple different "Quality" air pistols, you will be pretty much ruined. :)

Like shooting any accurate firearm, once you KNOW that the reason the group is the size and shape it is, is because of YOU, not the gun or ammo, your shooting will start to improve a great deal.

I had a CO2 Pardini, that was an awful lot of fun to shoot grasshoppers with!

For a more casual approach to a really decent quality air pistol, look at the used FWB 65 spring guns. Not super expensive, top quality build standard, and no other consumables to deal with.

Where is the best place to source a good one? ( FWB 65)

If I were looking to get one fairly quickly, I would be on several different airgun forums posting a WTB advert. IIRC, the velocity on those was not rated over 500fps, so the US is an open market too. Double check the specs from factory though, am working off the top of my head here.

Look at the likes of the Yellow Forum, Pilkguns target Talk, etc. Just pound "fwb 65 for sale" into a search engine, and wander around the web for a while.

Otherwise, like any other old gun, they show up from time to time on the EE.

And, like any gun you are actually looking for, you never seem to see one, when you are actually looking...<sigh>

Best of luck in your search!

And if you do find one make sure the seals have been replaced recently, otherwise you're going to be paying a bunch more to get that done.

Hey guys. Would a air gun pistol (rifled .177cal) be a reasonable substitute for a .22lr pistol for plinking? I'm kind of getting tired of needing a special ramge and extra membership for restricted firearms. And I can shoot an air pistol in my back yard or farm quite easily. I'm thinking of a semi auto CO2 powered one.

Thanks.

I got into this KWC Sig Sauer P226 blowback , semi-outo BB pistol.
Same reason ...to have some fun without the hassel.
Lots of fun with realistic weight ( all metal ), breakdown for cleaning , drop-out mag holds BB's and CO2 so you can have extra mags to knock-out the invading hoard of popcans and paperplates.
Accurate enough for 30 feet and abit . as fast as you can be.
I even have a drop-leg holster for it ...lol
Piccatinney type lower rail ( green laser shown )

Umaerx 92FS and 1911 are fantastic replica air pistols. Rifled barrel with 8rd rotary mag. My favorite and most accurate (with 6" rifles bbl) is the Umarex 586/686 and it has a 10rd rotary mag. Higher fps than the 92 and 1911 with 6" bbl too. It's extremely accurate (more so than the 92 and 1911) and has adjustable rear sights. I have yet to match it in terms of fun and accuracy from a co2 pellet pistol, I highly recommend it.

There's an as new unfired 686 on the EE right now.

I have been using an old Crosman 357 co2 revolver in my basement. I added a weaver base and an original Crosman red dot as my old eyes could not make out the iron (?) sights under artificial lights. I put a lock on my basement door so my wife can't walk in mid shoot. Bad move to shoot your wife with a pellet gun! This ability to practice 3 to 4 times a week has greatly improved my shooting ability as stance, breathing, trigger control, etc. are common to all my handguns. The trigger is crisp on my Crosman, a little heavy so I honed the sear to make it lighter. I would recommend this revolver or the Vigilante not as a competition gun but as an inexpensive way to keep your shooting skills up.

For fun or serious?

Fun = the new AGS Dan Wesson with any length barrel - accurate pellet shooter out to ten metres.

Serious = Steyr LP5P, that and its predecessor are what I've been using to replace 25m handgun shooting here in yUK.

I've owned a Crossman 1322 since the late '90s. The plastic pump handle/grips have been swapped for wood ones, a Crossman steel breech and an LPA rear sight have been installed.
It's surprisingly accurate and it thumps hard with 10 pumps. The variable pump is handy for shooting paper targets indoors at 20ft. 3 pumps is all that's required.

FTP or factory? I am building a 2289 into an under 500 fps grouse carbine to match my 2240 C02 carbine for cold weather use........Harold

My practice pistol is sooooo much fun to shoot.
