I've only been into handguns for almost a year now
Have bought 3 guns since last march, 2 were out of the cabinet picks at my local shop, the last I had to order and wait 3 weeks for it to be delivered to the store ( ruger mark III, CZ SP-01 tactical, Sig P226 elite stainless)
Each I had to wait for transfer and ATT but guns were easily available
Now my issue,
I am looking for a ruger super blackhawk hunter and have one on order with my shop, have been waiting for 2 1/2 months with no word or indication of time.
Out of curiosity I have asked for a super black hawk, red hawk or s&w 629 ....... none are available.
What is going on with availability, is this the norm, did I get lucky with my first purchases?
Advise please!

I don't know about the Rugers, but the S&W 629 really isn't rare, and shows up at various times in various places. For some guns, the wait time can run into months. Your shop probably tried to get you a new gun from a distributor and may have run into some difficulty because of that. Guns that are ordered by anyone from the US can take quite a long time to get here. If you want to branch out a bit and look at other locations, you might well find what you want, either new or used. You might want to get a copy of the tabloid, "Access to Firearms" which lists lots of guns for sale, and lists lots of shops. The dealers with sites listed at the top of this page may have something, and if you post a WTB thread in the EE Pistols and Revolvers forum, someone may contact you. There are other dealers, not listed here, as well. You should take some extra care in a private sale to make sure the party you're dealing with is doing so honestly, and that CFC has approved the transfer.

Get used to it.

I ordered a Smith and Wesson 617 from my local store.

They took a 50% deposit and told me I'd have my gun in a couple of weeks.

It didn't arrive for more than six months. I never did get any explanation as to why it would take that long for any gun to arrive.

Try being told 18-24 months for a Springfield Target Loaded in 9MM.

I can order a Les Baer in a fraction of the time.
