A discussion regarding shortening PPQ barrels led me to actually measure some pistol barrels.
I noted that using calipers and measuring the distance from the muzzle to the upper hood of the chamber (NOT the throat of the chamber) gives you a very close (if not exact) figure similar to the 'Canadian' way of measuring from muzzle to breech face with a wooden stick when the pistol is assembled. The upper hood portion of the chamber sits against the breech face when pistol is in battery. Actual gaps between hood and breech face and whether the stick used to measure is perfectly perpendicular to breech face may add a little more length as well.
A measurement of various guns with 'Canada legal' barrels revealed lengths between 106 to 107 mm.
This also illustrates the utter insanity of our laws as the angle of the stick in the barrel may alter the length by a slight degree, which behooves one to ensure an extra mm or 2 when making/cutting a barrel to ensure you exceed 105mm. A tenth of a mm may send someone to jail by strict interpretation of the law.
