Pistol caliber carbines, educate me

I would like to throw out another option which has not been listed yet.

The Kel-tec Sub 2000, which comes in 9mm or 40 S&W. Using glock or sig mags. And is around $700 here in Canada. Plus it folds up for transport storage and easy cleaning. I held one last week and found it hard to put back down.

I held the kriss but was not really that impressed with it.

I looked at Kel-tec but it has no rail on top. I guess one could always have a rail mounted.

It must be possible.

Not my image just found it on google.

The Kel-tec has multiple options that can be purchased for it. Unfortunately once you purchase all the options then it costs more then the JR. Since the JR is a better rifle, it makes sense to simply buy that one.

I have nothing against the Kel-Tec, but its over priced in Canada. It was meant to be a $300 gun and thats about what its worth.

CX4 is my choice...

Kriss is also great but it feels more like you old a pistol with a butstock. The CX feels more like a small carbine.
Never tried the Ronin but this can be a good alternative if you already have a pistol.

I just bought a new Sub 2000 from the EE...should be here tomorrow.

If you really want to install a quad rail on to it, the regular one is not a great option IMO. Mainly because if you mount an optic on the top rail, it gets in the way of folding the rifle. You would have to remove the optic every time you fold it, and mount it again when using it.

Red Lion has a good option for a quad rail forend. It is indexed and has a nut to tighten it in position. You can loosen the nut and turn the rail a quarter turn to get your mounted optics out of the way for folding, and then quickly back again when using the rifle. They also have a nice replacement front sight that's better than the plastic OEM one...which I heard is a bit annoying to adjust.

I just bought the Kel Tec short rail that goes under the factory forend to mount a weapon light, and the sling. It came with thebutt extension already. I'll keep it fairly stock other than that.

I have the Kriss , sub 2K (9mil) and the JR carbine (9mil)
You can't really compare them equally, as they are all very different firearms.

The Kriss is expensive , but if fun to shoot and easy to break down.

The JR is a great little plinker ,at just under 1/2 the cost of a Kriss. But you have to remove the stock to break it down to get at the bolt. They do not supply a tool to remove the castle nut with the JR .I have had the charging handle come loose at the range, and now I carry my allen keys when I take it out.

The sub2K is a bit expensive for what you get. The factory front sights are plastic. You can spend a lot of money on after market parts to make it the way you what it. I am not sure it is worth putting a lot of money into red lion accessories . However the sub2K folds in half and that , puts it in a league of it's own.

Please excuse my spelling and typo's , I am suffering with the flu.

The Kris would be a nice looking firearm if it wasn't for that "stock".

Of the ones mentioned. I like my CX4 storm in non restricted. If going non restricted get the bull barrel. It just looks right. Also the balance is still excellent.

If I ever buy a firearm that looks like a KRISS it better shoot fricken lasers or plasma streams. Way too Star Wars looking. I'm sure it's a quality piece but I can't get past the looks. The Thurean Defence does look a lot like the homemade ARs you can build from Paladin Press plans but it looks better to me. I think a re-finish job would do a lot to the looks.

As I have said before, we really need some .45 ACP carbines, and I would like to see some PC carbines with "traditional"-style stocks, such as the Ruger PC 9 or Marlin camp carbine.

Why non restricted? What a silly question. Canada is huge, we want to shoot guns out in the beautiful openness of it. I feel sorry for people who are range only shooters.

NOT a silly question. Quite the contrary. I wanted to know if he wanted to hunt with it, or just show competition with it, so in fact NOT a silly question but a warranted one. And I also, mentioned that he could get one NON-restricted if it was a big deal to him. People who refuse to buy guns because they are restricted only serve to hand our rights to the anti's. You should buy anything you like so you have it, and then work to change the status, not just bend over. I feel sorry for people who are willing to hand over their firearms rights and heritage to the anti's over arbitrary and silly classifications.

Slowpoke55... You need to buy the Thureon so we can have someone that owns all three do a review.

Come on, isn't that a good enough reason ;)

Maybe the nice folks at Thureon could send me a free one. Then I could give them a GREAT review , just like they do on youtube south of the boarder, LOL
