I happened to see an ad about 1911 and glock conversion kits that are for sale for under 400$. Those kits I understand make little carbine out of pistol. Are those any good? Any issues with them? I like the idea, in fact I thought about making one myself but now since I saw them manufactured commercially I would tend to buy. Also, I do not have that paper anymore ( I was borrowing it) and Freedom Ventures do not have properly functioning web site - anybody knows a link to more info on those conversion kits? Thanx beforehand, much appreciated.

I think they were called Mech Techs. I think Armco had a couple for sale not that long ago, maybe he has some input on the quality/function of those units.

I bought one for my G 17 and its great.I bought it from Freedom Ventures they have them on sale for a good price.
I have had no problems with mine.Works great and shoots everything through it.

I have a .38 Super Mech Tech "upper" for my 1911A-1. It works well and is kind of fun. I don't think there's much of an advantage to having a carbine that still shoots a pistol round; it's just one of those neat things.

Well, having a 10 shot carbine is kinda cool... always wanted to try out a Mech Tech in .45ACP myself...

Try shooting the 100yrd gong ever time with your 1911:D. When I slapped on the Mech Tech i could hit it evey time standing. That being said i did sell it and my 1911 too:rolleyes:. I felt to get the most out of the rig you would need to have two 1911ès one for your holster and one for your mech tech (frame at least). then you wouldnèt need two different types of mags. it was super reliable and there was little kick...a lot of fun for the price....

thank you for input gentlemen, I will have to try it myself now. Got this bug, you know, want it without any particular reason, just have to have it...

can someone briefly describe the design. I am interested if there is much gun smithing involved to put all that jewellery on a pistol and if process is reversible? Or is the gun sucrificial in this case? Would be kind of expensive experimentation. Probably silly question, but would this conversion change classification of a gun? How long is the barrel?

No gunsmithing involved, just slide the pistol frame into the CCU.

No classifications change as it uses the pistol receiver.

I dremelled half the stock off, and epoxied a 1" aluminium tube on. Then you add the M4 stock. Hopefully it won't knock $1000 off the value in 10 years time.
You get to keep the upper when they ban semiautos, which is nice.

LOL! If they ban semi autos, all you'll have left is the upper, what good is that? :p

What interests be the most is the ability to slap on a 10mm upper to your 1911 and instantly have a 10mm carbine. Not too shabby. Imagine the velocity from that one. But I heard they are difficult to take down for cleaning.
