gun ultrasonic cleaning machine

I always hate cleaning my hand guns, lead, oil and solvent every where, making a mess. I saw that from a book. looks like a great idea!!
Anyone try that before? what liquor put inside? oil? water or alcohol?

Its a parts wash. Often used by auto mechanics. Most folks use Diesel fuel as it has excellent cleaning properties and doesn't vaporize or smell as bad as alcohol or gasoline. They work alright but add there own level of problems by having to remove all the cleaner after it has soaked.

As this is an old photo and the unit is powered you may well find its a tricoethylene vapour cleaner/ Ultrasonic cleaner, I use to run one big enought to submerg a complete car engine until the law forbid the use of tricoethylene 111.

It would gently heat the item and clean it at the same time, also very useful when replacing valve guides into Engine blocks as the heat was gentle without causing hot spots and distortion, a few of my mates use to put there home made wine into the unit claiming it aged the wine, I never tasted it to see.
Oh for the good old days.

BC Railway loco shop had one that was 6'hX6'wX6'L with a crane above it. We used to wash our tools in it and it would take the handles off our screwdrivers.

Today I use brake cleaner, outside, and remove the grips because it will strip the finish off of wood and melt rubber. Most ofton it will clean without scrubbing. Then you just wipe white residue off with a rag and thoroughly re-oil. You still have to clean the copper and lead out of barrel.
