As posted. My woman has small hands and has not even had the chance to hold many pistols.

Could some of you recommend some small hand - handguns?

She is 5ft tall and 110lb. Small hands. You know the kind that make you feel like you're hung like a shetlan pony.

Thanks in advance.

Lol, no comment on the last bit...

I assume 9mm? A cz shadow 2 works well for small hands because there's a sort of a waist on the grip at just above trigger level.

Or single stack 1911.

But I hear it's hard to find handguns period, much less choose. Good luck.

Ok, I have to say it - why not let her handle some other guys guns, see what she likes? :p

I mean take her to the range on the weekend ;)

I am a big fan of CZ Shadows as they shoot well relative to their price. Mine has been ultra reliable too (so much so that I just bought a second Optics Ready version)

By chance I was in my LGS (where I picked up the Shadow 2) and they also had a Shadow 1 so I handled both - in my mind the Shadow 2 is geared up for bigger hands (which I have) and the Shadow 1 works for any size of hands (including smaller like your wife).

My wife was using my Shadow 2 yesterday and struggled to get to the mag release etc so I dont think it would be a great fit for her.

I have probably the smallest hands possible.

1) HK P30 with the small back strap
2) Glock 48
3) Walther PDP with the small back strap

I have extra large hands and shoot the G48 just fine. JS?

Unless she has some sort of genetic dysfunction, she'll be able to reach the trigger on just about any handgun? Other factors like weight, caliber, and sight picture will have far more profound effects on her ability to have fun.

Could she shoot a 10" barreled 629? Sure, she won't like it, but she would be able to shoot it.

As others have said, have her try all kinds to learn what's right for her, but the bell tolls for thee.

Most first time shooters, large or small appreciate Ruger's Mk IV pistols.

G48.

If you go with 1911, get short trigger, and if still too big, thin grips. Flat mainspring housing helps too.

For double stack, Walther P99/ PPQ /PDP with small insert works well. But single stack guns likely will fit better.

Another double stack option is Browning Hi Power with thin grips...Navidrex makes them and ships to Canada.

Wow. Thanks for all the options everyone! Ill do some digging into the suggestions.

Im kinda leaning towards a shadow 2. As I was already looking for one. I was unaware it could be had with options like a reach reduction kit.

I'm a female and tried several for grip size back in the day. HK SFP9 has fully customizable grips out of the box, that's #1. I have no problem to reach the mag release one handed on that one or the Sig P226R Elite. Naturally I own both those guns. For a 22 I shoot the Browning Buckmark, and it's also a nice fit.

You likely won't find a new Shadow 2, and they're expensive.

The CZ P-10 series are very good and a few places still have stock. Prophet River has them for $799 right now. They come with a small grip panel option. I sold my last P-10 to a woman and she really, really liked the grip size on it. The F and C both have the same grip profile that both fit the hand the same way, the F is just a longer version and has a longer sight radius and shoots flatter than the compact model.

The way to look at it is the size of gloves she wears. Actually what kind of "man size" gloves she can wear. It is kinda like what size of boxing gloves or what size of tennis racquet you will be buying, actually there is a chart! but in the gun world it doesn't work that way. It is not how tall she is - there are thin short people with long skinny fingers

So Don't listen to big guys with big hands to tell her or you what will fit - it will not.

I am a size small hand. So I will tell you from a real perspective of what size small will work. I wear size small gloves.

What works: CZ P10C, browning HP

What may work: Glock 48 and Glock 43- trigger is heavy and recoil is more vicious than full size if she doesn't have enough grip strength it will not work, single stack 1911

What will not work: Any Glock other than 48 and 43, SIG P226, HK P30, HK SF9, HK USP

Anyone can shoot shoot any guns at "slow rate" and bullseye speed with enough practice, but you can't shoot fast and accurate if the gun doesn't fit. It is like I can make a single swing with a tennis raquet that is too big, but in a game I will lose it after one or two returns.

You need "thin grip, short distance from trigger face to the back of grip, short trigger travel" - short finger needs more angular movement to create the same press than long figure, it is geometry. The interchangable back strap doesn't mean much actually. It is more important for the last two fingers to be able to wrap around the grip.
