Pistol for IPSC/IDPA?

I'm so torn right now, trying to figure out what pistol I want to get. I wanted one that's legal for both IPSC Production and IDPA SSP. I've narrowed my choice between a Beretta M92 (perferably a vertec frame and brigadier slide) or an STI GP6.

GP6: Fired a box through a K100, love the low recoil, good ergonomics on it and the sights were nice. Points very naturally for me.

Beretta M92: Fired a box through one, trigger's not as nice and it's a tad flippier but what's swaying me towards it is my airsoft roots: I use a western arms beretta M92 Elite IA almost exclusively indoors for nearly 3 years before the internals broke. All the controls and ergonomics on a beretta are almost second nature to me now and I know how I behave with a beretta when my heart's racing and the adrenalines flowing...

Both fit me very well, so... yeah, I'm really confused which way to go now.

Some help please? I have cookies to share for advice. :D
 
I would suggest you to buy anything but berreta, so you WON"T confuse it with airsoft toy had and pay full attention to the real weapon you are holding now.

Apart from that.... Sig 226, kinda can't go wrong.

And for the airsoft thing, yes I really think it is THAT important not to mix them ever. Just saying, it would be better for everyone

You'd have to be pretty stupid to mix them up :p. Just pulling back the slide you can tell almost instantly, the slide spring on the airsoft is about 1/10th the weight of the real steel, not to mention the chamber differences and the marking differences. The weight's and balance are somewhat similar but the feel's different, the airsoft is constructed of a high density polymer instead of metal to comply with Japanese laws, so it doesn't feel as cold when you first pick it up.

Besides, it's all moot... The airsoft met her fate so I disassembled her and sold the pieces off as spare parts... she went on to a better place. :(



And I tried a sig p226 as well as a glock 17. The sig had a bit heavier trigger then I cared for, and the glock was just wrong for my hand overall. Honestly if I could I'd use a Sig P229 with extended barrel or a Glock 19/23, the shorter slide makes the pistol point much easier for me but they aren't IPSC production legal.

For target shooting, the GP6 is the superior firearm. The beretta would be a better "trust you life to it" gun in my opinion. The GP6 has to be kept meticulously clean for it to function properly, due to the design of the rotating barrel, but if you can manage that, it is well geared to target shooting.
