I'm looking to get my wife a pistol to help get her interested in shooting. And before you ask, Yes it is a ploy for ME to get a polymer pistol, to contrast my S&W 1911 E-series. Is a 9mm M&P too big for a womans hands? I was thinking either a glock or M&P. Any suggestions? I want it to be more comfortable for her to shoot(i.e. lighter, less recoil) Than my other pistol. But Realistically, I will be the primary shooter.

The girls/ladies in my house hold liked the feel of the m&p in there hands but found the muzzle jump a little hard to control. They are all fairly small around 5 ft 120lbs. We went with steel frame guns for them.

Ya I don't think I'd set my wife up with a polymer. Probably a CZ sp01.
But based on your intentions, get the polymer you want, if she doesn't like it, buy her an inexpensive 22 and keep the polymer.

Ruger SR9. Inexpensive, with all the bells, gongs and whistles. Until she learns the knack, she might have a little trouble pulling back the slide.

I wouldnt get her a poly 9mm gun. As already mentioned, the muzzle jump is a lot more on the poly gun than an all steel gun. I know not everyone likes Norinco, but I have the Norinco 9mm 1911 and I also have the M&P 9mm, the Norc handles the recoil a LOT better simply due to the weight of it.

Glock 17 even gen4 has a larger grip than M&P9 with a small grip. I like Glock better but if it's really for your wife I'd say go with M&P. I would also suggest CZ P-07 Duty great compact gun with out the premium of re-barreled compacts.

I was going to get my wife one of those reverse handguns, ( don't know how to copy pic) but she said I would have to show her how to shoot it first!! Smart Girl!

took the wife to the shot show in vegas tired every hand gun out there ,she is a small girl the one that fit the best was the grisan regard compact believe it fit great even i had to pick it up .

sig p226, walther ppk , CZ 75 , TT33 ,glock 17 my hand guns, none fit her as good as the regard .....

My wife loves the 1911 style grip. She has a 22/45 and a GSG in .22LR. Have not got her into centre fire yet...recoil adverse...although she loves shooting birds with the 12ga o/u

I had someone recommend the Beretta PX4 Storm, though before that, he recommended the Ruger SR9c (though prohibited here). I noticed that Calgary Shooting Centre has a PX4 as a range gun, so I might try and get my wife to try it out.

This, I have have small hands and so does my wife... I went to the store the other day to try it in my hands and it felt very nice, great price too for $479 at WS sports

I have had a few women shoot my SR9, and while it works well, it kicks, due to the lack of weight.

My Girsan(Beretta 92f) is metal and longer, so it has much less kick and all the women have found it much less for felt recoil.

I suspect longer heavier ones will be better for that, given the same round for each pistol

My cz spo1 shadow with thin grip is perfect i think is the less recoil 9mm due to is weight every girls that try it loved it over my m&p
And it also an accurate pistol ... They get good score easely

Well every one as a favorite flavor!

For me I would tell you Springfield XDM with a range kit.

Reason: It just feel right, also my girl friend as no issue using it, my brother who as big paw as no issue using it with the small grip. It's easy to point and I love the angle.
