I own a Remington 11-87 it currently wears a pistol grip tactical style stock and an 18" barrel and serves as my HD shotgun. Until recently I used an akkar model 600 for bird and coyote hunting but it has since malfunctioned, basically parts started falling off and breaking. I plan on using the 11-87 with a 26" barrel for predator hunting but has anyone used this style of stock for bird hunting. It seems the regular field style stock is better ergonomically for wing shooting.

Both my shotguns wear pistol grips stocks for turkey season. Then thy get changed to regular stocks for other kinds of wing shooting. I find the Pistol grip stocks good for sniper style hunts. Turkey coyotes and deer from a stand. For wing shooting I love the regular stock . Dutch
I don't even like a Monte-Carlo style stock, straight English style stock on a double barrel for me when grouse hunting. A pistol grip is useful for aiming but doesn't allow for easy swinging and pointing of the barrel, not in my mind anyway.

Ditch the pistol grip for wing shooting. If you're trying to aim a shotgun when wing shooting, its almost a guarantee that you'll miss your target. The good thing with an 11-87 is that stocks are very easy to find and fairly inexpensive. Just swap out stocks for when you are shooting flying target.
I have a Mossberg 935 that I use for waterfowl and turkey. I swap out the regular stock for a pistol grip stock for turkey hunting. It only takes a couple mins to make the change and makes the gun more ergonomic for the hunting situation.
