pistol grip broken screw help!

Late to the party but I was going to suggest you take it to an EDM (Electric Discharge Machining) shop and ask if they have an EDM drill... The brass tube that burns through the steel doesn't ever actually touch the metal you're drilling - pop a few holes in the machine screw and it should fall apart.

First I cut a slit in it with a dremel and attempted to remove it that way. The steel was too crappy and it just strips.

Then I tried vice grips, did not work, just stripped the screw threaded...

It's really stuck in there.

SOOOO

I just called an EDM shop but he said it's gonna be like $50 bucks to set it up and $50 - 100 to do it... so I don't think that's worthwhile.. (good suggestion though, thanks)

So i may drill it out with a drill press and retap the hole a bigger size...

or just buy a new one cause this is a serious pain in the ass.

It is entirely possible to drill a broken screw, pick out bits of remaining threads, and clean the hole with a tap. No need to go oversized.

Ya i ended up drilling it out on a drill press then retapped it the same thread

What a pain wow. I definitely cross threaded it. That's why it was so stuck

Nice work!
Cross threading is something that one learns to avoid, specially if you are the one fixing it....... :)
